Sorry I was using voice to type earlier. You've mentioned the last name Hale. My great grandmother was a Katherine Hale she was lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma. I wasn't sure if they where related but thought it was neat I don't hear that last name mentioned much.

Also, I wanted to add that on Facebook you can find people who will take an old picture and enhance it for free! My husband did a few of his and I had one of mine done. Disclaimer: results may vary, lol. Some people are very good at it, some are very bad. But it's worth a shot. Some people can take the names off if it has been scribbled all over and even work miracles if it is a scan or a newspaper photo.

So I'm just curious. Do you use a family tree program? Or do you do it all with paper? I started when I was 16 and am still inputting information (as in scanning) but I live by my PAF program. The reason I purchased your pages was to make the information a little more interesting and to make use of my photos. PAF is kind of limited with the scrapbook part of the program and I want to make some binders for members of the family. RE: the military. I retired after 31 years. You get all of your records when you leave. They send a copy of everything to the main records keeping place out west (forget where off the top of my head). Records can be requested through the National Archives for older records. You're so lucky he kept it all & I'm pretty sure it's all different between now and then in the records they kept on the member. I am trying to scan all of that as well for both me and my husband. Some of it is not very fun, lol.

I really find your books interesting and enjoy watching. I have similar books to you but have added some interesting facts about earlier generations that aren't in the index. For instance my husband is related to Alanis Morisette so I put her in and how we are related. And there is a murder that I put in. I love skeltons in the closet. That does peek the interest of people more than census records (although I have them in there too). One question for you, why do you have the female first and husband second? All other people that I have found have it male then female.

Carly It would be nice if you would reply. This is not the first time I have asked questions. Do you read your comments?

I always had my female relatives first because that introduced the new surnames at each point in the tree, but I have also found that most people prefer the male-first index.

I'm just doing mine by my pedigree, using that number as the Index #. The female first thing would stress me out after doing it the reverse way for so long. I guess everyone has there own mental way that works for them.

Do you have ideas for gift books? Like you said for someone who isn't into genealogy.

Sorry, I don’t have anything specific, but if you were just trying to get someone started I might begin with a family journal or an inexpensive photo scanner?
