A family mistakenly took the wrong dog home from day care. The cats noticed first, and then the family brought the dog to the vet to confirm via microchip it wasn't the correct pooch.

Can’t blame the owners because you EXPECT your dog to look slightly different after a visit to the groomers. What proves that the owners are good is the fact that they noticed the behavioral differences. That means they care enough about their dog to know when it is acting different

A fresh grooming can make quite a bit of difference. I wouldn't have thought that much, except my aunt had her long haired toy dog done. Poor Bo barely looked like the same dog, it was such a hatchet job. He looked chubbier and no where near as cute w/ all his whisps cut off, and so badly. Those retrievers looked enough alike, w/ a groom, whatever subtle difference they might have thought they noticed, a fresh groom could put them in doubt. Thankfully they noticed by that night w/ all the behavior differences.

@@oldauntzibby4395I work at one too, and we also recently started with the no collars. Weird thing is though, they still let some dogs have their collars on. And not like “oh well we only let dogs with no dangerous things on their collar to have it on” like no, I had to pry out two pieces of plastic with my hands that a tiny dog was eating and would’ve choked on. And the dogs still roughhouse and have collars on. Like 75% of dogs have no collars, and then 25% do. It’s odd. I just wish they all had collars on so it’s easier to grab them if needed. Now you just have to do it by the scruff which is harder, and definitely more dangerous if you need to haul em off to time out for misbehaving with the other dogs, and you can’t keep a grip on them. And God forbid they get into a fight, a collar is a must have for safely getting them to release their bite.

Believe it or not, this happened with my sister's dog, a black lab. Her husband mistakenly brought another dog home from their dog's daycare. Labs are another one of those famously friendly breeds, so when the daycare staff accidentally brought out the wrong dog to him - another female black lab about the same size and age - in the pickup area, she happily hopped right into the back seat. The staff member buckled her in so he didn't notice any difference from the front. I almost did the same thing while picking my orange cat after he was being hospitalised in a vet clinic. There was a line up of about 3-4 almost identical orange cats, and the first one purred and responded to me nicely I thought it was my cat and almost brought him home. 😂 My cat was the last on the line up, looking thoroughly unimpressed. 😂

We had two orange cats, and both had dopplegangers in next street. Well our male cat and his doppleganger fought and once I found them on our steps-meowing as hell(so I went to look), opened the door and if one didn't dart home and other run away, I'd not be able to tell which one was ours. So similiar were they. Our female cat took it to next level. For several months the other family had no idea they are feeding extra cat...(she ate at home too!)

To everyone wondering why the golden retriever wouldn’t act differently… do you know how friendly those dogs are? 😂 My dog is a mix so he’d be harder to get confused with another dog. But he loves people and would probably go with another family. He might tug on the leash or something and he’d definitely cry if he was stuck in their home for a long time. But it could definitely be tricky! I’m just surprised they didn’t figure it out by the dog not recognizing it’s name!

It's not something I normally would have done, but I explained I'd just lost my dog, which happened to look a lot like hers, and could I please borrow her dog for a minute. I gave him a hug and just let it all out. It was one of the most healing experiences I've ever had. Happened to my Dad with his black lab Bart, a country dog. Dad brought home who he thought was Bart and had him for 2 days. Bart was acting weird. Crying at night, wouldn’t follow my Dad on his ATV, wouldn’t catch popcorn when my Dad threw it in the air and was pooping in the middle of the yard, Bart always went into the bush to do his business. On the other end, the Judge found it weird when he picked up his Elwood, a town dog, from the kennel and instead of hopping into his pet crate in the back of the Infiniti he climbed up front to the passenger seat… the Judge told my Dad that for a day Elwood was constantly crying at the door to go out, which he never did before. Wasn’t until the Judge’s son came home and was playing on the floor with the dog and petting him and said, “Dad, this isn’t Elwood… looks like him but it’s not him.” The kennel phoned my Dad and asked if his dog had been behaving differently since coming home… my Dad said, “Definitely!”. They explained that they feared the dogs had been switched by accident. My Dad asked, what’s the dog’s name? And they told him. Dad yelled out “Elwood!” And the dog jumped up and started wagging his tail, lol! My Dad and the Judge met back at the kennel where the staff couldn’t stop apologizing… the dogs met nose to nose and by all accounts were in fact identical. My Dad and the Judge had some laughs telling their stories about the weird behaviour of their respective dogs. Often told my Dad he should write a kids book about it or something 😂

Something similar almost happened to me once with my cat, but I realized almost immediately. lol It was nighttime and I had just gotten home, and my cat likes to sit in a certain spot in our lawn and greet people when they walk by. I saw him sitting in his spot like normal, but it was dark and I couldn’t see him too well. I thought he had been rolling in dust or dirt though, his fur looked lighter. I went to go pet him and say hi to him, but when he got scared and took off running, I immediately knew it wasn’t him! It turns out it was actually a grey cat and not a black cat, and as he ran away, my actual cat jumped out of the bushes and started chasing him. I guess that must have been a nice spot in the grass!

When I went to pick her up, they first brought a standard size chocolate poodle, then a smaller, but not toy, chocolate poodle, then a smaller chocolate poodle and said she had to be mine. She wasn't. They finally got her to me. I always wondered if she got treated for what I took her in for. They said of course she did, but if she was the 4th choice of which was my dog, I wasn't so sure. She recovered just fine.

Eventually I see him, sniffing the grass outside behind a fence. I shout on him, climb the fence and bring him back. Get inside and he's acting weird and scared. Go in my room and notice theres a lump on the bed, under the covers. It's my cat. I've just brought home an identical looking stangers cat. My mother in law got my kids in her van and our nieghbors dog snuck in her van, it was a lookalike of our dog so she just took it to her house...at the end of the day we went to pick up the kids and asked, "why do you have the nieghbors dog?" My poor nieghbor was in a panic..but their dog did escape to our house on the regular to play with our dog...so crazy

I would be able to identify my dogs in an instant for sure. Even if another dog looked identical, the behaviors are too telling. The happy excited, borderline crazy reactions they get to seeing me come to get them, a stranger's dog wouldn't do that. Sociable and friendly dogs may act friendly with just about anybody, but you don't get that intense crazy excited love except with someone they are thoroughly bonded with. They can barely contain their squiggles when they see me coming.

If my dog was in a room full of look-alikes, I'd know instantly which one she was because she'd be the only dog who wouldn't be exited to see me.

Happened to us too...my husband mistakenly brought home a look-alike doggy from the daycare but realized something was wrong when that little thing refused to get out of the car, just sat on the back seat staring at him. He immediately took the pup back to the daycare and brought our puppy home😀

About ten years ago one of my cats-Kliban- had found his way out of the basement because a window had slipped and he could be-he hoped-an indoor-outdoor fellow. I thought he was a wayward brown tabby guy when I found him sitting on my front step from time to time. I set out food and water and even asked neighbors if they knew who was, and after about a week, I bought supplies and let him inside and he immediately disappeared. I then saw Kliban and literally asked him to look under the bed and find his look-alike. He sauntered into the bedroom and showed no reaction. That’s when I went down the basement and discovered the errant window. I have had great fun telling this story and laughing at myself. (Kliban is several years deceased, but I will always hold him in my heart and smile at his ingenuity.)

This happened when I was a kid at the kennel. Dad picked up the wrong Golden Cocker Spaniel. He ended up with our dog’s biological father! ☺️🤭 The kennel actually figured it out within a half hour & my dad returned the father & got our dog back. 🐾❤️🐾

There was a story some years ago of a vet's office that had THREE identical black lab patients. Two in particular they kept mixing up with their owners. The problem was that one of the labs *really* liked one of the other families (maybe as he was from a one person household and the other family had a bunch of kids) and so he'd be super excited to see that family come in.

LOL "The cats started attacking the dog" that is freaking hilarious! Poor little buddy getting wacked by kitty paws! I feel bad for him but that cracked me up. I'm so glad everything worked out and both little buddies are home safe. That was a nice, funny story to hear.
