Gotta be a better parent. Why he allow his minor to be out that late? Need to be held liable for that too. I would never allow my kids out that late and even put in that situation. As a parent, gotta watch who they hang out with….. The people they hang out with is a reflection of themselves. Blaming guns and drugs is not the answer. Better parenting and knowing who they are with is key. Rest in peace, may this be a lesson to those parents who wanna be the cool ones. Your job is to protect the keiki till they 18. After that it’s on them and how you raised them.

It's already ILLEGAL for a 17 year old to purchase or possess a firearm. With some of the strictest gun laws in the nation already, what law would have prevented this? Is there a curfew law in Hawaii? The victim was 16 years old, allowed to be out after 1am? This is terrible for family and community but parental guidance is important. Being out this late for anyone is not a good thing, and where did the gun(s) come from?

Yup we do have curfew, he was already a law breaker and the parents or someone around them are still trying to blame it on the gun and push for more laws that will also be ignored by criminals.

This is why you thourougly check your kids rooms and belongings. There is no debate over gun violence. It’s the parent’s responsibility. You want things like this to stop happening, tell your kids family or whomever to stop stealing peoples guns. Tell them to stop hanging out with the wrong crowd. Stop them from being influenced by social medias or whatever they see on their phones or tv. Parents who don’t know anything are quick to put the blame on the government or gun stores but have no idea how hard it is to even buy and firearm legally.

Today park's and beaches are not where good kids hang out especially after dark . Good kids are not carring guns and hang out probably drinking or getting high . Parents need to check and see what their kids are up too . My condolences to his family members. May this child's death inspire parents to be better parents .
