Great video, I'm in kilkenny and born in Wales of Irish parents who emigrated in the 1950s to Britain. Many Irish emigrated to Britain over centuries and the Irish did do well to a great extent and still do well today in Britain. I have many good friends who came from UK here in kilkenny, Some of them living in Ireland now longer than they lived in UK and they all travel regularly back to the UK to visit family and friends. Motoring and food in Ireland is expressive but Ireland has a small community of only 5 million people. Majority of my English friends are great musicians and artist/crafts people and some are trades people, and all are great people in the community. Kilkenny is the arts center of Ireland but some people would disagree. There was a time not long ago when Irelands greatest export was her people but no longer so as we now attract people here for the great space, peace and countryside people crave in this mad world. It is a wonderful story of your connection to the area with your ancestors, they wanted you home, welcome home Bruce😀

Hi, thanks for the kind words. Yeah I felt it more than just a coincidence you know. I am loving playing music here. The thing I really love is music is taken seriously as a career here whereas when I told people in the uk I wanted to be a full time musician they didn’t get it

Bruce your definitely a man of good honest principles. When I first moved to Ireland I was very much in your situation and my savings started to disappear rapidly, so we decided that my wife would go to work 3 days a week and I would stay at home and restore the bungalow and work the land. The wages here in Ireland are good and the jobs plenty , that's been our experience. As for claiming unemployment benefits, if you need help don't be too proud to ask no one will think any less of you,it happens to the best of us at some stage in life .

Hi, enjoy the videos, I'm irish and I have to say I think it's great to see a young couple coming here and choosing to raise their families. It should be encouraged. It's better to see cottages lived in and land being revitalised rather than going to ruin. Keep up the good work 👍

Too bad Ireland does not grant residency on condition of buying land/property, as far as I know~ And getting an Irish passport is practically impossible for non-Irish either.

Thank you. There are other families around here but i think it would be a good thing to get more families into rural Ireland especially to keep the communities going for generations
@emcc8598
@emcc8598 2 жыл бұрын
@@BLAQFiniks Ireland is currently experiencing a housing shortage. Problem is many of the older and smaller properties need significant upgrading to make them habitable. Many banks won't give mortgages on these properties for that reason. The issue of a shortage of housing has also somewhat exacerbated in that there are fewer available houses than there are people looking for housing atm. As for the idea of passports been granted for those buying property or land - that unfortunately is known to be open to abuse with property been bought simply to get Irish citizenship and by association also EU citizenship. I reckon it's unlikely ever to happen.
@BLAQFiniks
@BLAQFiniks 2 жыл бұрын
@@emcc8598 you automatically jump onto conclusion everyone would go into mortgage. My family has never bought anything, if we couldn't pay in full for it; any loan with a bank is slavery with at least double the amount of original price to pay. Besides, I'd better buy land and build a house suited for my needs - it's cheaper by all margins, than restoring a ruin, tbh. Oh, I didn't mean getting a passport just on terms of buying a property: I meant getting a resistance for property and *then* after 5-10 years living in a country to have an opportunity to apply for a passport.
@emcc8598
@emcc8598 2 жыл бұрын
@@BLAQFiniks No. Sadly not everyone can afford to buy a property outright. The absolute majority of People in Ireland and especially first time buyers are dependent on getting a mortgage. Its not perfect - but it allows young people and those on smaller incomes a way to purchase their own home close to or in the place where they live and work. Ireland is a small and relatively young country and that unfortunately necessitates a fairly punitive tax regime to pay for social services and infrastructure.

Myself and family are English, have lived in Ireland for 20 years now with no Irish family connections. I've only once ever had any animosity, which was just a thug in a pub, could have happened anywhere. Just a more relaxed life, less traffic, rid of mortgage, just ordinary without the stress of city living really. I'm originally from Reading, I've had far more trouble there than ever here.

Just discovered your channel in last few days, Great channel, great content ...lovely family and love your ambition & humility. Keep up the great work. My project for past 5 years( love the journey!), is a cottage in the mtns of connemara, 13 acres, streams, ponds, great potential for solar, wind & hydro. Just back from there(live in central ldn), was working remotely for 6 months! (starlink!), loved it going back in the new year. Yes the weather in Ireland can be rubbish ( elemental!), but I love a good storm, big skies, a bit of sun, changeable weather. All the best on your journey!

The weather is a factor, you need an indoor-outside space the bigger the better, for just sitting in, working in, drying clothes when it's raining, and you need a dry warm house . You can do what a lot of people in Ireland do and that takes a Ryan air flight to Spain for a break from the weather, a Ryanair flight to Spain can be bought for €10 -20, and that can break the winter up into smaller chunks, I know people who go to twice in the winter, it's a 2-hour flight.

Similar journey here. In the west also but both Irish so still near family which is nice. On six acres here. Living off one solar panel at the moment and the generator the odd time. We have 16 panels ready to go up on the roof but that'll take some more time. Also the solid fuel range and veggie garden are up and running. Looking into to getting some livestock other than hens in the spring. We have 16 panels ready to go up on the roof. The OH works two days a week and I work full time albeit with a decent amount of time off. Might be able to reduce that in future - fingers crossed. Tonnes to do but it's a good complaint as they say. It takes time and in fairness it was the best decision we ever made. People thought we were mad at the beginning but not anymore it seems which I find funny. Good luck with it it's well worth it . :)

Welcome to Ireland. Love what you had to say about learning about Irish culture and Irish history and Britain had a large part to play in that as you have already said. Allow me to introduce you to Daniel who is from London I think who has a few years head start on doing the same thing as you buying and living off grid in Ireland. See the link below to one of his first videos at Mossy Bottom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6a6qaWArbRlaK8 Perhaps you already know each other. Just one thing to say about home schooling, yes it seems like a great idea in one sense but from a social aspect, going to school or church at least some of the time, would mean your children would make new friends and you would make new friends also. But also your children could get involved in playing local sports etc.. Well done on all that you have done and again you are very welcome here in Ireland and my advice to you is to apply for the dole immediately, both you and your wife. If you are entitled to it then you should have it and you can have no recriminations regardless of what anybody else might think.

There are a range of conditions with regard to be eligible for a range of welfare payments in Ireland. To be eligible for welfare in Ireland you must be "habitually resident". Even if you are living in Ireland - there may be some hoops and jumps to go through .. I've taken this from the main Irish Citizens Information website "What does habitually resident mean? The term habitually resident is not defined in Irish law. In practice it means that you have a proven close link to Ireland. The term also conveys permanence - that a person has been here for some time and intends to stay here for the foreseeable future. Proving you are habitually resident relies heavily on fact. If you have lived in Ireland all your life, you will probably have no difficulty showing that you satisfy the factors which indicate habitual residence - see list below. ... UK citizens who have recently moved to Ireland may find it more difficult to establish that their main centre of interest is in Ireland" So yes it is possible but along with the above conditions- there are a number of other caveats such as a number of payments are based on social insurance contributions or are means tested. It's also possible to use contributions you paid in another EEA country or UK to qualify for some payments, but your most recent social insurance contribution must have been paid in Ireland. I can't link directly but further info is available online.

You are absolutely entitled to Welfare payments if you wished to avail of them. And every family is paid Childrens Allowance for children up to the age of sixteen, so you should not feel obliged to waive that right at all.

Not really the self sufficient lifestyle is it?
@ianwynne5483
@ianwynne5483 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right, the children's mother should be getting a €140 per month per child cash payment until they are 16yrs old and up to 18 if in full-time school. This is nothing to do with full self sufficiency, they are not grinding their own wheat are they? This is a universal cash payment, an entitlement which is not means tested or subject to taxation.

@@ianwynne5483 Yes they are such decent people and genuine about not taking out of Irish society, and not being open to any ridiculous condemnation from idiots, that they fail to see it is totally right to at least get what every other family in Ireland gets. And as for self sufficiency, well the Childrens Allowance money would go into the local economy, so how can that be wrong? It's only a small thing but I hope they just do that at least. Take care.

Also a good 15 years ago I did some traveling round Europe working for land owners to help renovate properties and just generally work their land for simple bed and board basis, there must be some of these groups still going, even if they could offer your kids Spanish lessons say, towards their homeschooling...fair play
