My dog used to love when s squirrel would interact w him. Now he has given up after most don't play w him. Every year he finds a squirrel who seems to know he is harmless and it will follow him, but he just seems bored by them. He recently saw a chipmunk for the first time, but they seem to have more trepidations about him than the squirrels.

We have 6 or 7 that we feed every day. We keep a huge pan of sunflower seeds that we fill up daily sometimes multiple times a day. They actually take peanuts right out of our hands. They have jumped in our laps numerous times

When I was growing up, we used to vacation at Lake George, NY. We had many chipmunks over the years, but a particularly friendly one liked to sit in our laps, and take peanuts out of our hands. He was bold enough to climb up my sister, and sit on her head.

Only one of my cats likes watching Cat TV - she's watched squirrels, birds, fish, other cats. But her favourite by far is this video of chippies. She sits glued to the screen and has watched it many times now. The video is at a perfect angle, the chipmunks' movements are subtle mostly, and the scene doesn't change. Best cat video out there. It's exactly how a cat would see the chipmunks if s/he were stalking them. Further, you've inspired me to do my own cat video next year of the baby Arctic Ground Squirrels here. Thanks! :)

I went to Algonquin Park one summer and set up my tent over the entrance to their nest. I fell asleep in my chair and when I awoke one was sitting on my lap. I left the vent window open on my car and they decided to move in. They found a roll of TP under the seat and began to shred it for bedding. I love them and would have gladly welcomed them to come home with me but you know how it is .You know they are not vegan? I saw one with bulging cheeks and a baby mouse hanging out of its mouth once.

Aren't chipmunks basically just small ground squirrels? What's interesting, is that in my area of northern Delaware, near the borders of Pa, Md, NJ, there's only 1 'zone' where chipmunks live. The dividing line in Delaware is route 202(Concord pike). They exist on 1 side of that semi-urban and heavily trafficked road, but not on the other side!

You should not put the food so close to their tunnel because it will led predators there. Other animals and bugs will smell that scent days after, even if the food was only laying there for a short amount of time. Please place the food away from the tunnel opening, these little guys have it hard enough without leading /inviting more predators to their location. Thanx for feeding them and for the video.

mjchenevertful I'm not sure to be honest, the babies look so similar, hard to tell with the tight camera angle. I think 3 as well though, might have been 4. The family has grown since I made this video, they frequently come up within a foot of me and look at me for food, it's fantastic, I love it! They still have their tunnels throughout the front garden and have plenty of seeds from the bird feeders above, as well as the nuts we feed them. Love these little guys, I'm glad you enjoyed watching them as much as I did!

So adorable! i dont want to kill a squirrel but they wont leave song bird food alone so i have been getting target practice with a slingshot and chick peas. it doesnt seem to do much more than scare them away but lately i been only putting out finch food and the squirrel pilfering has gone down a little bit. Then, one day i see the chipmunk!!!!! Love at first sight ;) it is still afraid of me and i dont know if there is more than one yet either. i'm happy, almost to elation lol, to have the new addition of these tiny four leggeds in my yard. i've also been feeding blueberries & strawberries grown local. But now, i'm not just chasing off the squirrels for the little birds but my little chipys too *sigh ;D
