I started learning ASL years ago @ a community college because I needed to be in school. ASL 1 was offered @ a convenient time, and it didn't have any prerequisites, so I took it. I found LHTS last year when I tutored ASL. This channel is a great help because it has introduced me to many signs! Meredith, I appreciate all the ways you encourage us to interact with the Deaf.

i just find it interesting and i think its imp to be able to at least learn the basic cpnversational signs.. i dont have any deaf friends/family members nor did i ever meet a deaf person but i hope i am able to use ASL at some point of my life
@gardeniagirl13742 жыл бұрын
@@nadaahmed6236 There are many opportunities to use ASL from signing to everyday people passing by, to Deaf coffee chats, to courses, to employment, to interacting with Deaf. LHTS is a great place to learn fundamentals.

I started learning sign for my love of communication. Maybe it’s just me, but speaking just got kind of… boring? And signing, is just beautiful. Even with the few signs I know and those letters, I find myself signing my thoughts. It’s interesting and the thought of communicating with a deaf/HOH person makes me heart flutter. I’d love to enter the world of ASL. Update: A while later, I’ve just “graduated” ASL 1! Taking ASL 2 after summer.

I started learning ASL last year after Marvel released 2 projects that featured characters that are deaf: Makkari in the movie Eternals and Maya Lopez in the show Hawkeye, who will be getting her own spin-off series in the coming summer. I'm looking forward to that a lot since there'll be a lot of signing in that series. Those projects were the push for me to start learning since I've wanted to learn a new language for the longest time

I started learning sign because of an anime called “A Silent Voice”. That movie really touched my heart in so many ways and I would like to learn so that one day we can all understand each other in communication and in everything in life. This is what the movie mostly talked about and I have really seen life in a different perspective. Thank You!

Two Questions: * Do you use the signs “and” “as” “or” in ASL? Or is that in SEE? * Can you make a video about what you should and shouldn’t do when communicating w a deaf person? Thank you guys for all the work you put in for your videos! They’re so helpful!

Here's my story about AND... I was somewhere and a man was signing things for us to guess. He signed AND several times, but none of us recognized it because we were taught that there wasn't a sign for it. We scratched our heads, and wrinkled our foreheads. What was he signing? We gave our best guesses until he told us it was AND. We told him what we were taught, and that we had never seen AND before. Then he told us that Deaf doesn't have a sign for AND anymore, but the old sign for it was a flat O on its side and you moved it sideways. Deaf got rid of the sign though. At that moment I realized that ASL evolves just like all things do. I never had to think about that before. I gained a new respect for Deaf because I realized that they were the only ones who could add / change / remove signs in an intricate gestural language that was uniquely theirs.

Thank you for another informative video. I thought the sign for 'son' was 'boy' + 'baby' put together. Likewise 'daughter' was 'girl' + 'baby' put together. Not just touching the forehead or chin.
