Certain pieces of the films are "in-canon". Like Uta does exist in-continuity just like Shiki. But while those 'pieces' exist, the 'events' of the movies do not happen and are confirmed "non-canon". So Oda provides 'pieces' for them to then build a story.

​@@MisHo1060Uta herself has been shown in the manga. The anime episodes around Film RED can be taken either way. It doesn't go against continuity but it's never stated to have happened in the manga. As long as Oda doesn't explicitly say anything, you can take "her backstory" with Luffy as canon since it doesn't change the fact, that Garp would bring him to Dadan/Ace later(Shanks had been on that island for a year before Garp brought Luffy to Dadan) but there WILL be people having a problem with that because they didnt read it. Reminder: Daddy Masterson is canon. That's canon filler Oda couldn't put in the manga Schrödinger?

I saw a theory about Hanafunda and why he was introduced to us now. Ace's fight against him might be our introduction to Ace in season 2 of the Live Action series. So they asked Oda to come up with a design and some story before writing it into the script.

I think it's more likely that the anime will show Ace VS Hanafuda instead of the live action. I think this because 1) I don't think we'll Ace is season 2, as I think it's likely that season 2 ends after Drum Island. And 2) Because it would make sense for the live action to introduce Ace with a fight that takes placa a whole 3 years before the events of the show and that has no relevance to the live action's plot. Meanwhile the anime would benefit to make Kuma's flashback longer in the anime with additions like this

If there is any truth to this I am hoping so hard that is material for season 3 because if they're going to expand on Ace material instead of cutting or nearly cutting him, that's all the more reason Alabasta absolutely cannot fit neatly into 2 episodes. For the Shiki part, Oda didnt want Shiki to have the Fuwa Fuwa no mi due to the rules he set. Shiki will probably make an appearance in the main story due to his ties with Rocks. But because Strong World is more than 10 years old, everyone associates Shiki with that devil fruit. So Oda is kinda forced to give Shiki that fruit to avoid causing confusion

Making himself fly is not the OP ability of breaking OP rules. There are other like Marco, Pell, King that can do that. The Overpowered ability is making an object he touched once, to be able to fly indefinitely without his control, like what he did to the islands floating. If he can just make himself fly, that is fine. But if he makes large things like his own Boat fly with all his crew, that is OP, they can just glide through all of the grandline thru calm belt without seakings detecting them as they are floating. (no weather issues in calmbelt)

your description of what happens in the movie development process was pretty much accurate. Oda gives them some notes and character designs and then it's generally very hands off. And you're right that Film Red was the most hands-on one. and i can't really explain why he thinks he's stuck but i kind of understand it. for some reason it feels much easier to discard the events of the movie as non-canon, but if Oda suddenly introduced Shiki in the manga with a completely different devil fruit, that would somehow break immersion more than if the events of Strong World just never happened.

I dunno about that. He was pretty hands-off with Stampede, that's why there was no "FILM" in the title, but that movie still falls under the criteria of "character designs and some notes", so it's hard to say how extensive his work is outside of the movies where he was probably emotionally invested(Strong World, Red). When it comes to Gold, he rewrote the final fight with Tesoro, for example.

What i wonder is can bonny command her father to use the paw paw fruit power to extract his memories from bonny, all of the memories bonny witnessed can be given back to kuma, didnt kuma ssy when he made his memory bubble is not removing the memories, but just making a copy of the memories.so bonny wont lose her fathers memories is kuma removes them, but just makes a copy to give it to himself. Idk if that will bring kuma back to normal or not.

- Honestly, I think it's really interesting that you have to have been to that place to send people there with the Paw-Paw fruit. I always took Kuma visiting the places he sent the Straw Hats as Oda establishing that because Kuma had been there before, he knew where to send everyone. Frankly, I prefer the latter. - I'm so happy we finally got an explanation as to how CP9 ended up as CP0. I know Issho is an admiral, so he was already insanely powerful, but having one of the Supreme Grade blades recontextualizes his power. It also makes me think the theory that it's the sword with the gravity fruit and not Issho is false. And I think you're right about Oda putting out a supplementary book that reveals information like the Supreme Grade Swords. - I really like the theory that's popped up now that this Hanafuda guy gave Kaido all of the Zoans for the Tobi Roppo and the Headliners. And bring me pictures of S-Lizard! - Oda calling out the media illiteracy is amazing! - I like that we finally know the Empress in between Shakky and Boa. Still don't think she's Luffy's bio mom. That feels so bland. It's better than Croco-Mom but not by much. I'd much rather Luffy's bio mom be a nobody. - I honestly thought Alpha was going to be older, not younger than Kalifa.

To add a bit more on Hanafuda, Oda was asked on SBS 100 about Ulti and Paige One’s relationship, and he answered that they were siblings that got taken into the crew by Kaido since their father, a friend of his, had perished not long before. My head cannon now is that Hanafuda is the father in question

"How much Oda is involved with movies" DEPENDS. In earlier ones he was just "don't use this devil fruit, but this is fine". But somewhere around strong world his involvement started getting bigger and bigger. He's still not too involved with them, but he often shares things that are cannon but wouldn't appear in story or gives feedback. And he also cannonizes things he likes, so there is that.

Part of the importance about CP9 becoming CP0 has to do with the Level 6 prisoners that Sengoku wanted to warn the public about but was told no by the World Government, because admitting their breakout would be even worse for publicity after the Paramount War (decided to retire). Then the time-skip happens and we don't see much of the Level 6 prisoner threat (which the SBS explains now by giving the credit to the former CP9 agents). It also shows the agents in a bit of positive light (having truly helped the public) at the same time Egghead is going on.

As far as Bonney's abilities go, it seemed to me the reason she can keep that older appearance so long is because THAT IS her future... she calls everything else a "distorted" future, or adds some kind of modifier to it. For example, "give me a future, where i'm the most free"

I suspect the Age-Age Fruit has something of a rubber band effect. The more drastic the change, the harder it is to maintain (and the less time it takes to those she attacks with it to snap back), so, besides practice, her adult form isn't as huge of a change as making someone go elderly or infantile (given her true age, its a lot relatively speaking but I think it being her own actions make it easier to maintain, like when she made herself really old). Likewise her super powered alternate future forms are significant changes from the current timeline, and being Nika would be one of the most drastic changes of all, so it takes a much greater toll on her. But agreed, the Freedom line feels weighty

I've seen people answer the Shiki and movie questions you had vaguely, so here's a bit more in-depth answer. For all filler and extra content (so games, movies, tv specials, stage plays, vivre cards, etc) Oda will design the key characters involved himself and look over the general notes and plot for each of them, making requests for changes if he thinks it can't work in the One Piece world, but he doesn't write the stories. He's hands-off outside of these elements. And this was the case with the movies up until Strong World was released. As someone who was reading weekly when Strong World was announced, the big thing about that movie that made it stand out is that it was the first movie that Oda himself wrote. He came up with the plot, the characters, the environment and the dialogue all himself and this is the only movie he's done this for. Even Film Z and Film Red, which Oda had more involvement in than usual, didn't have the same level of involvement as Strong World did. So for Strong World, Oda decided to make the main villain a character he had actually planned for the main series: a rival for Roger and the first man to escape Impel Down - Shiki. Shiki is first name dropped in the manga by Sengoku before Strong World even came out. What Oda was saying about Shiki's fruit is that Shiki didn't originally have this power when he was planned for the main story, but because Oda had essentially sacrificed his relevance in the main story to use him for this movie, he felt like giving him the float float fruit would be fine. After all, he was never going to show up again. The problem Oda faced though is that he had already made Shiki canon. Chapter 0 was also meant to be canon, and that has Shiki in it. Oda never expected Shiki to come back but now that he has begun telling stories about Roger's era it would be weird if Shiki was absent. After all he was meant to be a rival to Roger (and by extension Whitebeard and Big Mom). So Oda was forced to include him on Rock's crew and in turn this led to his devil fruit also being forced into canon. He couldn't not have Shiki have that fruit after all. I hope that explains everything!

Honestly what I wish Oda would do after One Piece ends is release all those world building notes in a separate volume. Maybe actually hire a writer to edit some of it to be more palatable to readers. Then release it. Doesn't have to be as detailed as the actual Manga. Just informative about the universe Oda has built over the decades. I bet fans would eat it up. I know I would.

I saw a few comments that touched on this, but none of them had the full explanation. Most of the One Piece movies had little involvement from Oda and are not considered part of the series continuity, though some can be squeezed in without issue, and movies 4 and 5 are referenced directly in the G-8 filler arc of the anime. The exceptions are movies 10, 12, 13, and 15 (Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold, and Film Red), though his involvement here varies. Strong World was written entirely by Oda, and when the film was being promoted, he even said it was part of the manga's storyline. A promotional chapter 0 was released that explains Shiki's backstory, and the Log Books (which are Japan-only compilations of manga volumes printed on cheap paper to help children catch up on the series) have a special volume that summarizes the events of Strong World. Strong World also fits easily between Thriller Bark and Sabaody, with only a single throwaway line from Brook causing any continuity errors. In this SBS, Oda is saying he gave Shiki the Float Float Fruit because he'd be a movie villain and not part of the main storyline, and that he doesn't reference the events of Strong World in the manga itself so that the manga can stand on its own without needing supplementary information. Oddly, the fan wiki considers chapter 0 to be canon and the movie to be non-canon, despite this making absolutely no sense whatsoever; given that chapter 0's ending only makes sense in context of the full movie, they're clearly a package deal, where either both or neither are canon. Film Z was supervised by Oda as executive producer, and he designed the villain and wrote his backstory. The movie is set between Fishman Island and Punk Hazard, with an anime filler arc more closely tying it into the anime continuity. That said, it has been confirmed by Oda not to be canon due to contradicting several details in the manga, though he originally intended for it to be a deuterocanon sidestory that fit the continuity, like Strong World. It does show that Kuzan lost his leg fighting Aokiji a full decade before the manga proper confirmed this. Film Gold had its villain's design and backstory contributed by Oda, and he helped storyboard the climax. Despite this, the movie does not at all fit into the story's continuity. A filler arc set between Dressrosa and Zou does confirm that the villains and location at least exist in the anime's continuity, but the events of the film itself do not, and this still has no baring on the manga continuity. Film Red was supervised by Oda, but he had more direct involvement than Film Z. Uta is a canon character and had tie-in strips featuring her, but the only canon involvement she has in the manga is that she was rescued by Shanks after being orphaned as a child, and he raised her as his own, and she eventually left the crew to become a pop star. The backstory with the tragedy of Elegia and the existence of Tot Musica are not part of the canon storyline, however. Anime fillers, other movies, and video games do have access to certain information that isn't in the manga yet, which is how the Warship Island filler was able to foreshadow the Voice of All Things, and Stampede was able to reveal the proper spelling of Laugh Tale and include part of Oden's flashback that wasn't in the manga yet.

My personal theory about Bonney’s fruit is that the more distorted the timeline she taps into, the harder it is to keep that form up! So when she ages herself normally to an adult self she will eventually naturally grow into, maybe that’s less taxing than tapping into alternate futures like a Giant or Nika/fully free one. I think the Shiki part is you getting tripped by a subpar translation. Here's how I'd have translated the question and answer. I hope that makes it clearer. Q: Shiki the Golden Lion (or a lookalike) has finally appeared in the source material. Does that mean Film Strong World is now part of the canon continuity? A: I mean, most of the movies can be shoved into the canon timeline if you REALLY want to, but doing so officially would make the movies mandatory watches, so don't expect them to ever get major connections to the manga. That said, Strong World is one of those I came up with the plot myself, and Shiki was already part of the lore before he got used in the movie. He's always been canon. However, if he were to be featured in anything other than the movie, I wouldn't have made him eat the Float-Float Fruit. The Float-Float Fruit was rendered unusable by my personal rule to avoid depicting people who can fly or float (because this is a pirate manga). But then, after I busted out the fruit without worries because it was just a movie, the man is suddenly back in the manga (laughs). I'll admit his reimportation was weird.

With most of the movies, Oda doesn't directly design the characters or powers. The people making the movie will make the characters and their powers and will then go to Oda to ask if they can use these characters, and he tells them if they can use them as is, if them have to modify them, or if they need to scrap them.

I expected one of the top comments to be explaining this but I guess I will. Oda is involved to different degrees in different movies. However, noteworthy for Shiki is that Strong World is the only movie that Oda wrote. As I understand it he agreed to write the movie to get leeway on something he wanted. It's also the only movie where he wrote a full tie-in chapter for it, Chapter 0 that let us see a lot of the characters we know 20 years younger. So while Strong World isn't canon It occupies a unique place of canonicity compared to the other films because Oda himself wrote it, because he wrote a seemingly canon chapter of the manga as tie-in to it, and because Shiki has made much more direct appearances in the main story than any of the other films characters. As for Oda's involvement in most movies, he is involved in every movie with "One Piece: Film" in the title to some extent. Usually contributing ideas and creating or canonizing the film's most major character. He also quite often contributes character designs to non-canon games and other material.

Yeah you didn't get the importance of fujitora-s sword being revealed It's creator is someone from wano (fugetsu is one of the daimyo clans and it is the clan that rules over kibi which was the least explored region of wano and also coincidentally Yamato is right now travelling there in the cover story getting stoned by kids) which means fujitora may have some kind of connection to wano like so many of us have thought Also so far rest of the confirmed 12 saijo are tip tiers of the world: yoru used by mihawk, murakumogiri used by whitebeard, ace used by Roger and shodai kitetsu used by Nasjuro of the five elders These are relevant to zoro's goal of becoming strongest swordsman because part of becoming strongest swordsman may also require leveling up your swords...so far all of zoro's swords are of 21 ryu which are 1 rank below 12 saijo Him having a 12 saijo means he's not just a strong person with strong devil fruit power but also a strong swordsman

Someone else in another video already mentioned that several decades ago several families left Wano to explore the world, the most prominent being Shimotsuki Kozoboro ,who created the Shimotsuki village back in East Blue, where Zoro was raised. So,it can be theorized, that this swordsmith was one of those people,and also Fujitora ( Fuschia Tiger), bought it from a random shop, just like Zoro buying the Sandai Kitetsu from Logue Town.😅

I just came to say that the empress who died of love sickness looks like the female version of luffy but with make up , oda drew luffy like a woman in an sbs and the way the empress looks , its possible that love sickness is having a son and the kuja executed the empress who would have a son in the island . It would add so much more weight to why luffy was there - goa kingdom isnt his where he was born, they never really said , all they said is that garp brought him to goa kingdom , and that dragon also grew up there. So im gonna say that dragon had acess to amazon lily if he was in the marines , so he met the empress and fell in love , they left the island somehow and the kuja told everyone she died of lovesickness, when she came back after having luffy , but without him since he is a man , the kuja still follow kuja law and she is unable to change it cuz she doesnt have boas fruit , and at this point boa and her sisters are already with nyon , shakky didnt die of love sickness because she never went back to amazon lily , but luffys mom did. After her execution , the next empress was to be named , and so nyon trained boa to become the strongest , since i think the mellow mellow fruit is the reason why she is the most "beautiful" . Later when kuma sends luffy there, he has no idea any of this happended to his mom on this island, but as u can see everyone bends the rules for boa hancock , since she is so gorgeous, nyon also asks luffy who his dad is and she knew who dragon was - not because of the revolutionaries but because she was knows that dragon and the previous empress had a son , and now he is here in amazon lily . I dont think boa has love sickness cuz of luffy , i think thats how her devil fruit makes her react when she is in love. The disease isnt real , none of them died of love sickness , it was made up to keep the secrets of the kujas having children with men. They didnt behave like boa behaves aroubd luffy , bevause boa is the only one of the empress that has the mellow mellow fruit.

Oda was very involved with the making of Strong World, at that time it was the movie he was involved with the most. his original idea for a movie was about the secret and mystery of Nami's birth. It was said that that storyline was way too dark for a One Piece Movie and he changed his mind about using that plotline in a mere One Piece movie instead of the main story so it involved into Strong World story, which still centered around Nami but in a different way.

Oda is involved in the movies from number 10 (strong world ) onwards. Devil fruits in fillers and movies go through Oda first, so they don't use a power Oda has plans for in the main story.

For the films, any film with the moniker “FILM” is somewhat canon. So Strong World, Gold and Red are all somewhat, whether that be the chapters associated with it, certain characters etc.

There's definitely still a part of kuma still in there cause he punched the taste out of Saturn's mouth and his fist was covered in haki. Haki comes from willpower so regardless of what Saturn told Vegapunk to do I think he left at least a small part of Kuma's original self in there

I think what Oda is saying about Shiki is that because everyone now associates Shiki with the float float fruit he can’t change what Shiki’s fruit is because then it will cause confusion amongst the fans.

Shiki is a canon character. He was on Rocks with big mom and kaido etc. I believe he was drawn on that panel the manga already in Kuma's flashback but don't quote me on that. Uta is supposedly a canon character as well since there was a one-panel silhouette of her in the manga when shanks rode by Wano and stopped Green Bull. So the characters exist in canon but any stories written around them in the films are not canon. including, i believe, the flashback with Uta and Luffy growing up. However, when you give a HUGE figure like Shiki a strong devil fruit in the movie, Oda can't really go back and say "oh, well actually, he was part of rocks and he had this other devil fruit instead." so he's stuck writing Shiki in the way the movie portrayed him just for continuity.

My theory on Hanafuda is that he was connected to Kaido and the beast pirates since his name is a Japanese playing card which fits the motif of the beast pirates. We know that he collected ancient zoan devil fruits and that his nick name was lizard king. So I think that his devil fruit was the TRex fruit(which was oddly missing from wano considering it’s the most famous dinosaur) since TRex is Latin for tyrant lizard king. Also considering he was a collector of ancient zoan fruits, I think he was kaidos original devil fruit dealer and that’s why all of kaidos top officers have ancient zoan fruits. Ace goes on to defeat him which allows doflamingo to take over his role as DF dealer. Also this would be the event that leads ace to wano since he’d probably wanna take out hanafudas boss too
