In this previously lost video episode of the podcast, John welcomes back recurring co-host, Bob Bergen as they laugh and reminisce about personal experiences they have had with the cast of "Family Ties". They discuss stories behind the casting of the show, the time they each first met Michael J. Fox as well as Bob's experience going to high school with Justine Bateman. As always they have a terrific time as they bring forth little known facts about a show they both love!

“At this moment” was a heart/gut wrenching song. I remember running to my cassette player to record it from the radio and being moved to tears listening to those lyrics. To this day, there hasn’t been a song sadder than that one.

Thanks Jojo, that’s what I tried to explain to Bob, it was such a memorable song. It still is to me.

I remember watching "Bridget Loves Bernie" in 1972 when I was 10 years old. Fortunately, its one season is available on DVD, and I watch the Christmas episode every year. It was actually a pretty good show. The cast also included David Doyle and Audra Lindley as Bridget's parents.

I've always loved Family Ties, and I agree with you both about Brian Bonsall. The show really lost something for me when he appeared. He was cute and all, but I wish they would have let the character grow up naturally. But the final scene of the last episode still makes me cry. And of course Michael J Fox is absolutely wonderful

Family Ties will always bring back special memories for me. Yeah I definitely agree and believe me I was choked up as well for the final episode. I didn’t want it to end😂

Tom Hanks wasn't just on Family Ties. He arguably was in the 3 best eps (Uncle Ned). His Bosom Buddies co-star Peter Scolari was also in a great episode where he falls in love with Mrs. Keaton. You mentioned the one where Alex gets hooked on uppers - but Hanks played an alcoholic (which was brilliant). River Phoenix, Geena Davis, Martha Plimpton & Crispin Glover were all in eps. Daphne Zuniga & Jami Gertz starred in 1 of the best eps. Mallory Keaton didn't start off as a ditz. They started making her ditzy in season 2 - but I preferred her as more of an equal to Alex. The way she could take him down was great. One of Justine's best performances was early in season 1 when an older family friend starts to make a pass at her (when she was just 15). It was a gutsy topic back in '82 which they handled beautifully. You guys mentioned how good Meredith was. I thought she was the anchor & made it believable. She was the mother we all wish we had - my fav mom in TV history. Her heartfelt scenes were fantastic. Family Ties & Growing Pains always get compared for good reason. Family Ties gets more of the love because of Michael - but I believe Growing Pains was more consistently good episode for episode - but Family Ties at its best was better. Wish you guys would've re-watched some of the eps before doing this. Sounded like you needed a refresher. Pluto TV has a Family Ties channel. Strangely, they don't run the eps in order. Btw John, on Rob Lowe's pod he's brought up that same bus tour where you met Michael. He speaks of it fondly

Thanks so much for that breakdown of Family Ties info. I loved it and now I am energized to watch it again😀I totally forgot that River Phoenix was on Family Ties. Also appreciate the info on Rob Lowe’s podcast where he talks the bus trip. I am going to go look for it. Thanks again!

Michael J Fox was a friend of my cousin Dave L. when he lived in ,and went to school in Burnaby BC. 🇨🇦 Mike was in a "band " with my cousin and they'd play in my Aunt and Uncle's basement . Of course this was before his career happened. My other cousin( Dave's sister) and I , knew Mike as one of the annoying friends! 🙄 🙂

They lost touch when Michael left to pursue his acting career. It's kinda funny to think that I just considered all those boys to be my cousin's loud and annoying friends!

@@laurie7604 It is always pretty wild when you knew someone at such a normal time in life and then to see them rocket to fame and success. That happens to very few. Thanks for the story.

Like all of your episodes, this episode was wonderful. Since you mentioned it a few times, I suggest that you do a show on the Facts of Life or invite one of the girls, now women of Eastland in for an interview. Is Antonio Fargas still around? You did a great interview with Starsky, it would be great to catch up with Huggy Bear. I watch In the Heat of the Night a lot. Have you thought of interviewing Anne Marie Johnson, Alan Autry or David Hart?

I really appreciate that:) Also, thank you for the suggestions, Antonio Fargas for one is in the works but may take some time with the recent death of David Soul. I will work on the other Facts of Life women:)
