These folks are central to the job we had at Strategic Air Command, from Offutt Air Force Base to the crews of the B-52's and KC-135's at the bases all over the world. If the klaxon sounded, one or several of the people in this film gave the order to launch the alert force. That was Air Force bomber and tanker crews, this order would cause the ICBM force to go to maximum readiness as well as the Subs carrying the most destructive weapons known to man. Just at the SAC bases we had to possess a secret clearance to do our jobs. You were investigated by the FBI as a child to determine if you were fit for the job. If the order were given for our aircraft and missiles to launch these folks would be right in the action of ensuring those of us at the bases and subs received the proper orders from the President of the United States. They are as much a hero as those of us securing the weapons and aircraft on a daily basis! All branches of the military were involved!
