I just discovered this tool, and I am ecstatic - thank you! The only slight downside is that it doesn't work for data copied from Firefox, but I can easily live with using Chrome for this.

I appreciate you checking the file out - I'm glad you find it useful. The data shows up in an inconsistent format when using Firefox. So I could only get reliable results with Chrome and Edge. I have no idea as to why that is and I could not find a workaround to get it to work with Firefox - sorry. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, issues, or suggestions for it!

Does this work for any indexed image collection on Ancestry or FamilySearch, not just censuses?
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
Yes it should work with any record that allows you to view the image and the index. The data that shows up in the actual index is determined on Ancestry and Family Search's end. The Extract workbook moves that respective index data into an organized Excel Table for you to analyze and edit easier.

This sounds like a great addition to everyone doing their Family Trace. In Excel 2016 you can actually create Chronological Maps of your Family's Migration with the 3D Map Feature. So you can literally "Follow the Footsteps" of your Direct Ancestors and Extended Family. You just need to get your GEDCOM into Excel. I have yet to find any "Big Box" Genealogy site that has this ability. The only thing Ancestry DNA does is to show the Migrations that appear in your DNA and who your close relative are.

Thanks for checking it out! Some do have an Export to CSV option. I know GRAMPS does and I think MyHeritage. However you will have to do some leg work with formatting that CSV file to make it a fully usable data set. Family TreeXcel puts it into a fully formatted table and eliminates most if not all of that leg work. The GEDCOM import feature is currently only with the "TREE" workbook - but it will be a stand alone file in the near future as well. I haven't used the 3D map feature yet - ill have to check that out.

I can’t get the Extract workbook to work. I have it unzipped. At the top I get a Protected View warning. I’ve tried pasting with protected on and off…doesn’t work. Should I enable editing? I have tried that too without success? Any advise?

Sorry for the troubles. Yes you must enable content and editing for it to work. Some common issues: 1)Make sure the source is set to the index your trying to copy , i.e. "Ancestry" or "Family Search". 2) Make sure the index Pane is visible before copying 3) Make sure you use CTRL+A to copy all of the data Please email me at familytreexcel@gmail.com with your order # for further help so I can provide more detailed solutions with associated screen shots to help get it up and running. Thanks
