That blue thing that was being constructed on the pond is not from the park itself. It's a temporary thing for a tv-show called "Ter Land, ter zee en in de lucht". (on land, at sea and in the air).

Efteling confirmed the rumors of Disney visiting Efteling are not true. He did visit another Dutch park instead. He visited Madurodam miniature park. He even had plans to also make something similar at Disneypark. Efteling does have a good relationship with the Disney company tho. Ton van de Ven, who designed many of Efteling's attractions, was also a good friend of Disney's Tony Baxter (senior vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering). The relationship between the two parks was emphasized when Efteling won the 2004 Thea Classic Award, the highest honor awarded by the Themed Entertainment Association: Efteling had, as it turned out, been nominated by Tony Baxter.

Parks tend to act very friendly amongst each other when it comes to 'industry meetings' such as with IAAPA, TEA etc. It's all for the cameras. They are fierce and harsh competitors however, in real daily reality.

The vliegende Hollander is a story about the flying Dutchman, the dark part of the ride is actually mist and it's supposed to give you the feeling that you are at the open ocean with a lot of fog when suddenly the lost ships appear out of now where, and then you face the ghost ship Called the flying Dutchman. The flying Dutchman sallows your boat up and you face the dead captain ( the face you see before the Rollercoaster part)

The story for Symbolica is that you are supposed to go on an audience with the king. To do this properly the formal guy (in the preshow) tells you all the rules (how to address the king etc). Then Pardoes (the jester) shows up and takes you on his own tour, which, of course, is much more informal. He takes you through the more interesting places in the castle (the Palace of Fantasy). In the middle of the ride the formal guy tries to stop you, but with the help of Pardoes you can continue on your way. In the end you still meet up with the king during the banquet/ballroom scene. The three versions of the ride have 2 different rooms each that you only enter when taking that specific tour.

Nice video, but what I don't understand that you were surprised about all the construction works. Because the Efteling is always announce their construction works on their site etc This park is open for the whole year, so they have to do maintenance during the opening hours. What is so special about the Efteling that it's a real theme parc and not just a rollercoaster parc. That means you're going into a complete experience. Each attraction has a own story. But when you're not interested into the story, then it will be just standing in a line watching outstanding props and doing the ride. So do yourself a favor and find out about the story and feel the whole experience.. Most are well explained in English on the Efteling app etc. And Yess, the Efteling is huge, just walking around without a plan, then you'll gonna miss lots of amazing experiences at the parc. Hope you all gonna have the next time even more fun.

What surprises me about construction is that when compared to Disney (which a lot of people do) a lot of the construction is hidden or worked on at night. Thankfully Efteling is such a stunning theme park it didn't take away from it's beauty. I would happily go again in a heart beat.... Stunning park

Thanks for the nice review video😊 Glad your family enjoyed it so much! You are right, there is a lot of construction at the moment: parking lot, a tunnel, hotel, a ride (when you visited even two big rides) and regular maintenance. That is why I wait myself quite a while before I will visit it again. The construction in the water was because of a tv show that was being recorded. If I recall correctly they have a contract for another 2-5 years to shoot it during a week once a year. So for that you were unlucky.

Yeah, it's a rumour. However, Walt did go to the Netherlands for the Dutch dubbing for his movies. However, when Disneyland Paris was under construction, they did turn to Efteling for advice on how to appeal to the European market, so they are acquaintances at most. Oh, and the park opened in 1952. It had its 70th anniversary in 2022.

Back then, it was not yet an 'imagineer' , it was a 'designer' .. :-) ... The word 'imagineer' was invented way later, as a clever means of core marketing (along with the word 'castmember'... At opening date of Disneyland, they were just 'staff' .. lol ) B.t.w., that designer/art director was Ken Anderson... 🙂

The hiding of the construction normally is very good, but the day you went, the cloths for the fences were still shipping and were put on the day after. The people working on painting and things, happens where people can see it cause it proves they keep working on their parkand people can see it. In Symbolica everything gets told in Dutch, French, English and German. Don't know why you didn't notice that, what can be is that you got in as one of the last so you came in after the English version. Why people say that Walt inspired Disney on Efteling is because there are pictures from Walt inside Droomvlucht with the imagineer of Efteling. Why the show Raveleijn was spoken in Dutch, is because its based on a book series and its kinda aimed at the fans of the books. The book series is in Dutch so that's why the show is too. The monorail actually doesn't ride over the fairytail forest but over a whole other section that has its own story that's written in a fairytail book in 12 languages that's in front of the ride. It rides over "het lavenlaar". The construction there was because they are putting better technology in that whole section. Poffertjes are actually a famous Dutch food, that's why they serve it. To make it easier, all the attractions in the Efteling also have their English name that's shown in the park and on the English version of the park map. De vliegende Hollander tells the story of The Flying Dutchman wich is also its English name. You went on "Joris en de draak" or in English george and the dragon on the wrong day because 3 days later they changed the whole track to be smoother. Still a wooden coaster but with a metal and smooth track. The name of the Python actually does fit in the park with the attraction because there is actually a whole story with it that fits the whole vibe. It"s not so clear in the park, but there is a whole story that makes everything much clearer. I also hope you've read the stories that are in front of every fairytale also in 12 languages because they are so good! The donkey is a part of the fairytail forest and its linked to the story of the fairytale behind him. It's actually my favorite story. You didn't have luck with the day u went because a few days after the park started staying open untill 10, and at 1à u could actually watch the water show in the dark and stay until 11. They don't add a fast pass because they believe in making their rides fast and they also believe in giving everyone an equal experience, and they don't wanna give people a faster experience just because they paid more. What i like most about the park is that its not only themed inside the attractions, but the second you walk in you're in a whole different world and don't think about the worries of the real world. I also like that unlike other parks, the music is lovely, pretty but its not busy. It makes you feel calm instead of rushed like in other parks. I hope this helped!

You talk about (ceo) Michael Eisner and (imagineer) Tony Baxter, who visted Efteling right after Fata Morgana opened. (1986) Walt died in 1963. Droomvlucht opened in 1993. Walt was for shure a blimey fantastic 30 years old GHOST, escaped from the Haunted Mansion ... on Droomvlucht.... ... The one photo known is Eisner and Baxter in... Your fiction seems to be endless ! > ""... I also hope you've read the stories that are in front of every fairytale also in 12 languages because they are so good! ..."" > 12 languages? The "storybooks' in front of every fairy tale (and other spots) are written in Dutch, English, French and German. According to the fantasy novel 'Watership Down', rabbits can count to 4, 'many' in rabbit language is hrair :-) So, you saw hrair languages due to whrong glasses, while only one story telling book in the park has 5 instead of 4 : with Pinocchio , where the 5th language is Italian. (for good reasons...) ... (I will stop now, because the endless fiction can be explored by other readers as well :-) ... But one last remark; it is fun when every time the donkey lifts his tail, it is to remind us of that 'fairytail' 😁 )

I love this video guys! i'm always happy to see people enjoy Efteling! Here' some things you probably wanted to know while doing the rides hahaha. Sorry in advance for the long post haha. Symbolica: Symbolica does have some english words mixed into the conversation. There's not much story, you just visit the royal palace. And the old man called OJ is reading the rules for you. But then Pardoes, the magic jesters crashes scene, and takes you through the palace of fantasy without the rules. And through the secret passage way. Ravelijn (The show with the knights) You got the concept right, but they also had audio translations for the show. So you can hear it in English. The young teens get lost while finding their friend. And find this magical kingdom that is about to be taken over by the badguy. So they decide to sty and help. (very short version of the action story haha) Vila Volta (not Volch loL) This tells the story of a gang of robbers and plunderers called the goat-riders. Lead by the oldman from the pre-show called Hugo. They were riding around the area where the Efteling is located. Until they found an Abby, where the monks lived. And they robbed the Abby. But then Hugo saw a ghostly figure, a lady in white who warned him. Hugo itnored it and went home. And on top of his house was the white lady. Telling him " Not in your house, not anywhere in the world you will find peace. Only when a pure soul will enter your house, only then you will find peace in your house and in your heart." And that's why you enter the mad house, and that's why everything is spinning because Hugo can never find peace and rest in house due the curse. monoRail: This is not he fairytale forest. This is the land of Laaf. Which is a strange community of elf like creatures who were looking for a new home. Which they found in the Efteling. It's more of a peaceful rde relaxe a bit. Vliegende Hollander (Flying dutchman) This is pretty much the a story where you ride your boat at sea. And you get captured by the ghostship of the flying dutch man. The ship pretty much " eats" Other ships, never to be scene regain. The Donkey: This is the story of 3 son who went working in different professions. And from their work they brought 3 magical items. A table that would magically be filled with food, And donkey that could poop gold, and a wooden club in bag, that would protect his owner. They all went sleeping in an Inn. But the Innkepper stole the items. But when he opened the bag, the club came out and beat up the Inkeeper. He gave the boys back the magic items. That's where the donkey comes from :D The stories have way more elements, but this is all of them in a very small nutshell.

Efteling is on a big round of renovations after COVID (they had to close during lockdown), which I honestly don't mind because they're doing some amazing stuff with it. A year ago they did a big renovation of Droomvlucht for instance, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Piraña went through the same thing (the rapids ride) and it's open again since last month and they're added a bunch of new things so you get even more wet now. They're also going to stop with the Raveleijn show and replace it with more of an interactive walkthrough attraction with shops and food stalls and such, with the same characters walking around there and the like. They'll keep that amazing set (there's offices in those buildings), but they're going to turn it into more of a town square you can walk around on I suppose. We don't have all the details yet. As for the spooky attraction, Danse Macabre, they had to tear down its predecessor (Spookslot) because it was really old and it wasn't entirely structurally sound anymore. It was also more of an animatronics show type thing than a full-on attraction. Danse Macabre is like a big love letter to Spookslot as well, because it's full of references to the old attraction and they've even reused some of the original props from it after some restoration. They've managed to keep part of the original tower from Spookslot too and they've integrated it with the new building. You can see it from Pardoes Promenade (the big central road leading up to Symbolica). It's opening on Halloween.

I went to Efteling in 2017. It's pretty fun. I enjoyed it for what it is. I think my favorite ride may have been the spinning house. Being that Dutch is really close to English, I didn't have too much of a hard time getting the gist of the animatronics speaking only the native language. If you want to visit a theme park that is mentioned in a video game, check out Adventureland in East Farmingdale, New York. KOF '97 has the theme park as a stage, although it is wildly inaccurate to the real park.

nice video. different from a normal vlog. the music and themeing makes this park so special. They also maintain attractions well, meaning they last a generationally long time. for example dream flight. Too bad there is a lot of incorrect information. for example, the monorail does not run above the fairytale forest and English is spoken in attractions or there is no conversation at all, such as at Raveleijn. It would be nice if you visit Efteling again with all the new information that has been gained.

@@helenooft9664 Of course, if you visit a foreign theme park, you expect to hear the native tongue. The difference is that places like Disney go above and beyond to cater to all languages. Efteling does not as much. The British are sadly not as well versed in speaking multiple languages and therefore from a British perspective they will have a harder time at Efteling than Disney which provides subtitles, multiple characters speaking different languages to each other in the same show, and in some cases shows that are entirely in English.

part 2: hugo tells: (about 3 minutes) this house this cursed house, it is like hell. that one cursed evening in the belgian kempen, the sun was low and we were looking for beds for the night, but there was no sign of villages. but suddenly in the distance a large building, we knew the abbey of postel. we galloped the horses and when the sun had set we arrived at the chapel. there was light behind the windows and it was deathly quiet, no monks singing or muttering. behind the chapel door: golden chalices and silver candlesticks for the taking ha ha ha. with these thoughts we rammed the door immense on the altar glistened the loot. candles were lit, strange. my men cracked the offering box and I emptied the altar myself. then suddenly on my shoulder a slender hand, I looked around and behind me stood a young woman, her eyes full of fire, everyone saw her and the ringing stopped, she seemed to float in her long white dress, for a moment I felt something of fear and she spoke to me: "you hugo van de loonsche duinen you are desecrating this house here, so repent and do not call down the wrath of the lord upon you" but I overcame my fear, taunted her away with a scornful laugh and pushed her back roughly, I called the men to leave and saw that it dissolved into nothingness. a day later I reached my house, I was shocked, on top of the facade she stood, the lady from the chapel, her arms waved as if she were rocking on the wind, I heard her voice as if it floated in my head. "nowhere in your own house or anywhere in the world will you find rest or peace now that you have violated God's house, only when a noble person with the pure conscience of a newborn child will enter your home then you will find peace in your home and in your heart" that ban my horrible fate has not been broken to this day, enter with a pure soul so that the doom falls from this house and my soul obtains the rest that I so desperately long for.

boron 1898 advise next time your at efterling and you want to go know the strory of baroon but don't want to ride you can ask for a red ticked usually that even let you ski the queue if you enter on a red ticked the way how baron works is you get a ticked with a reserved space on the card for it By taking a red ticked you will have no place on the card in other words with a red ticked you do just the walk trough I suggest you take the left door and look at the screen on the left this one will show the story in english

First is correct. 2nd is untrue. Disney was in The Netherlands to see the opening of Madurodam, and Efteling's sprookjesbos opened 3 months earlier..... Addiional : Walt was in a hurry (on his way to Denmark), but he sent back Ken Anderson for in depth studies, afterwards. I'm convinced Ken visited both Madurodam and Efteling. Ken, not Walt...

Disney went to the Netherlands... builds a fairytale park... and didn't visit Efteling 😂😂 yeah right... he rather speaks to voice dubbers around the world😂. He was just scared to get sued for copying. Disney is nice, but not as nice as Efteling. But it's great people around the world get to visit a fairytale park. Pre-show symbolica is half english.

To not know any other language than just the one from your country is one thing. But to visit another country and then have not even remotely a clue what language is spoken there ... is another. It was really bizarre that this guy went to visit the Efteling an honestly didn't have a clue what language he heard being spoken there. French? Flemish? And then has to be informed by his wife that the Efteling is in The Netherlands so the language spoken there is Dutch.... OMG!!! How sad is that. This guy obviously doesn't have a clue about even what country he is in when visiting any other place than the UK. And btw Flemish is not a language. The official language spoken in Flanders is Dutch. Flemish is a southern dialect of Dutch, just like there are many dialects of Dutch spoken in The Netherlands as well.

part 1: (around 4 minutes) villa volta in the middle of the 18th century, waves of violence swept through our Brabant Kempen and Limburg countryside. hordes of unscrupulous thugs plundered and set fire to our peace, they called themselves the bokkerijders. after shadowy air spirits who, according to a medieval myth, swarmed through the night sky on goats. and could even enter locked houses small conversation: viper brood, that's what it is, they must exterminate them root and branch, that's what they must do. yes that's for sure marie that's for sure I heard that they burned down (something) last night and took everything of value. oh yes it's not true? viper brood, that's what it is. they say that their eyes glow in the dark and that they are so fast that fate strikes them like thunder. nonsense I tell you, underhanded rabble that with low tricks bribery destroys the common people, let them rob the landlord and they will be disappointed. after conversation: the myth tells that this devilish army of goat riders met its end in a gruesome battle high in the heavens above the Postel abbey, 60 long years the gang exercised a true reign of terror over the rural population. their satanic guild sign "a bookepoot" filled everyone with shiver and fear. small conversation: cursed be those goat riders the parasites of this region and Hugo in particular. he is a godless fool that Hugo with his long black mane he is the devil as soon as he is near you are not sure of your life. not to mention the harbour and property. even the bolts for the trapdoor do not stop him. oh gentlemen who could deliver us from such tormentors? a blasphemous bandit that is for sure, but remember pride comes before a fall. that may be his young peer but for the time being he doesn't care. as a young man he wasn't always good against the rules you could see it coming then that he would become a rascal. after conversation: here is the story of hugo, hugo van de loonsche duinen who joined the mean pack of robbers, a man without any compassion possessed by an unbridled greed and vultures and money. hugo the bokkerijder.

HAHA .. you don"t know what was happening in Symbolica ? Of course you don't understand the Dutch wordings.. you said that :-) But so, to start with, that's what we call a language problem, not a story telling problem... :-) ... then however, even more important : all characters and situations are derived from the former Efteling self produced TV-SERIES ( !!! lol ...> 2011 on Nikelodeon) "The magical world of Pardoes" (translated). So, in the Netherlands, everybody knows it ! When you do not know it, then, that's just an 'Anglosaxon" problem... lol ... :-) :-) Why would we be forced to know all Disney films, and why not Efteling productions ? :-)

@@SlopesAdventures mmmm.... Efteling does not have one. Some visitors have :-) > + 80% of the visitors speak Dutch... in low season probably even + 90%. Correct causal relationship has always to be recognised. :-) If in England, everything will be spoken in English. When in France, French. (Go to Puy du Fou) When in Germany, German. (Go to Europapark) When in Denmark, Danish. (Go to Tivoli) When in Sweden, Swedish. (Go to Astrid Lindgren Värld) When in Japan, Japanese (Go to Disney Land/Sea) ... So, when in the Netherlands, Dutch. ☺ ...even if some safely announcements can be made in one or two languages more. And written information materials, in four. ... and it's OK when they speak several languages when serving food or selling souvenirs. But I of course would never try ordering food in french, in England... 99.98% will refuse to understand .... The world is that simple :-)

To explain a bit more: I studied well into the language (and cultural) challenges at the park. Before the covid period, I've performed regular 'end of the day' interviews with non-Dutch speaking visitors. I'm backed with a lot of data around the visitor experiences. Most mentioned the fact they somretimes did not understand (wordly) what was going on, but almost none declared it was a serious problem for them to enjoy the park. (And the majority of them were not even native english speakers, those are a minority amongst all. There are native german speakers, french, different slavic languages, spanish, italian... arabic, hebrew, bahasa indonesia... 🙂 Impossible to please all !
