MEDAL OF HONOR! JOHN J. MCGINTY, USMC! HISTORY, ANCESTRY & GENEALOGY ALL AROUND US!

We visited the grave site of Captain John J. McGinty in Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina. Captain McGinty had a full career in the Marine Corps but is best known for his incredible heroics during Operation Hastings, in Viet Nam. Hear his amazing story here! Semper Fi!

He was far more of a hero to me than his “war story”… i know him as Mac…. he was my grandpa, by choice, who loved me as if I were his own from brith… hes the reason my favorite number is 51… he was my safe place, always… he was wisdom i valued even at a young age… he was the humor in the house on shit days… he was magical…**he had a glass eye, and loved to creep me out with it** the story teller, who had a way of captivating even my young mind… a joke teller… he and his buddy Sam used to start every single phone with a joke… he loved playing cards too… he was an AMAZING doodler, and artist ….. he was someone who tied to put out our house fire in my bedroom in 1992 with a buckets of water & a hose, while my window exploded outward on him…. He’s the reason I still buy blueberry pop tarts to this day… He was a man of HONOR - far far beyond that medal. He’s a man who definitely would not be about all the hoopla in his honor… It wasn’t without much convincing that he ended up buried where he is…. Had this humble man had his way though, this wouldn’t be his final resting spot….. Worth noting too. His wife Elaine was a bada$$ marine too… they had 2 kids… the youngest always by his side… 🖤 fun facts: He’s one of two to ever give up their medal. He’s the only one to ever get it back…. Also before he passed, he got his pistol back, which had previously been stolen… one of his medal buddies, also named John I believe, had given him theirs - some amazing soul out there purchased macs in an auction & traced it back to him & returned it. 🖤🙏🏼🖤
