"I attempted to make a Famicom sound more like a C64." Ya serious? Sounds like you do such tracks for years. Nicely done, I'm stunned. :o

Great work! Thanks for honoring one of the best tracks in gaming history in such a great way.

This music is so awesome man, I had a c64 when I was a kid and I played it alot. How come I never had this game?
@andyukmonkey9 жыл бұрын
+Arconath Resonath There were a ridiculous amount of games made for the C64. Something like 15,000. It's easy to have let one slip you by lol

My god the amount of pitch bending is unreal. One day I'll compose something like this, when I finally master all the things.

This was really good, especially since it's done with the VRC6... Now with the N163 this could sound even more accurate with better PWM resolution!

+za909returns I totally agree, but it wouldn't be as fun or challenging IMO.

Yeah, using the VRC6 and Namco 163 are the best way to make perfectly accurate Commodore 64 covers.

Wow. You nailed it! This is one of my favorite chiptunes. So many people cover it... and so many people get it wrong. I cringe with ther incorrect notes etc. But yours is just perfect! Did you really do this whole track manually "by ear"?
@NecrophageonIII8 жыл бұрын
To say that it was done "manually by ear" would only be a half-truth; I used a SID player to isolate the three channels, but each of those channels were transcribed by ear, yes.
@Richard.Linder8 жыл бұрын
+NecrophageonIII Ah. still very impressive. I have heard many versions of this, and to my ear, yours is perfect. The notes, the sounds, the timing... from start to finish, it all just sounds right.

I hear you man, I have the same cringey reaction to sour notes and bad timing. XD I guess what I mean is, thank you. :)

Hi! I'm trying to learn to making music in this style and I'd like to know if I can use the instruments in your .ftm please. I also don't know how to properly use the Arp Envelope, Arp Phase Lead, Echo and Curve instruments.
@NecrophageonIII5 жыл бұрын
That's a lot to unpack in a single comment but I'll give it a go: The Arp Envelope instrument is just a volume envelope that tapers off - the actual arpeggio effect comes from FamiTracker's 0xy effect (x and y being distance in semitones from the note you are using). Check the effect column in patterns where this instrument is used and you'll see what I mean. The Arp Phase instruments are all just one-shot instruments made to simulate the pulse-width modulation effect in the intro and are never used again after that. The only difference between them is the pulse-width envelopes they use. They were made to be used in specific sequence, so I numbered them to keep them in order. These are also used with the 0xy effect in this track. The lead instrument is just a giant sequence of pulse-width changes that honestly sounds like total trash without some other stuff in the mix to hide it. :P It has about 3 1/4 seconds worth of instructions for arbitrary reasons I can't recall anymore, but it can be made to loop the effect just fine. The Echo instrument is meant to follow behind the Lead instrument - you just mirror the Lead instrument with Echo and drop it down a row or two at a lower volume to simulate the echo effect. It's a pretty common practice in chiptune - the only reason this echo has it's own instrument is because I wanted the volume envelope to end at 15; when you combine volume envelopes with changes in the volume column things get a bit complicated and you have to look up a volume table to find out where you're going to land. Curve is made to emulate a specific instrument in a small section of this song and I'm not sure if there's a "correct" way to use it outside the context of this track, though I guess you could really say that about all of these lol. :P Anyway I'm not sure if any of that really helped or just made things more confusing... I do that sometimes. Also yes, it's fine to use any of these instruments for whatever you like. Sorry for the late reply!
