North Indians like dosa, vada, sambar, but not idli!!! Dosa is very delicious, tasty to eat. So is chutney, sambar that goes with it. Even Dhirubhai Ambani loved the masala dosa so much when he was in Mumbai!!! So everyone has their favourite food item, as per their preferences. East or West, food is the best!!!

Masala dosa means only dosa+oil+powder/redchutney+alu staff that's it , onions, xyz ingredients not needed here apart from South india rest areas include all items call it as masala dosai, also sambar is given only for idlys, also one can tell same also available in South main cities but there nonlocals do that kind of masala dosa they don't have idea.

its a big joke.., its not even a dosa batter. dosa was originally made with urad dal and rice batter, but here it's besan flour.

Actually what you guys get as sambar is not the real sambar . It’s some Mangalorean dish looks like sambar . Ask your friends and relatives who have traveled to Tamilnadu Deep South to some cities like Madurai and Coimbatore , the real sambar is that . Mangalorean hotel owners in Matunga area when settled in 1970 s had to compete with the Tamil and Telugu restaurant owners as their food had variety , especially the sambar . Because before 1970s only those who are south oriented had their food at these restaurants . But later to get the market on their favour , the Mangalorean hotel owners made association and opened 7 hotel very close to each other and marketed the food for very less price . And Sambar was made different and more liquify as well as quite less taste compared to Tamil and Telugu sambar . So the story goes the today’s so called sambar what north people like to eat is just tomato juice stuff no Dal no vegetable , nothing except it’s just water mixed with tomato . Hotels like sundar , Manis Cafe , still provide sambar of original taste and quality - who fight survive in the Mangalorean owned business market .

Food Blasphemy. Bombay does not serve good South Indian food!! After the awful butter/cheese/cabbage/onions/garlic/tofu/paneer/soy sauce/mayonnaise/egg laden dosa served as street food, here is another avatar of that awfulness. You do not eat dal vada with Sambhar. Please dont dunk everything in Sambhar. Everything will taste the same. Dal vada is eaten as is or with a smidgen of coconut chutney. That is all. Sambhar has its place. It is just not on top of a dal vada ,for heavens sake.
