On a Sunday morning, our group (Luis, Mike and myself went to a day hike to Dry Lake in San Gorgonio Wilderness.
This hike starts at South Fork Trailhead which is on Jenks Lake Road, 2.5 miles from Highway 38. Starting elevation is 6,900 ft from parking lot and climbs two and a half miles to the Wilderness boundary. There is second Wilderness boundary sign on top of Poop-Out Hill (NE) that offers a better overlook view of the San Gorgonio Mountains. From here it continues for another 1.7 miles to South Fork Meadows at 8,200 ft. where a trail fork will show up. Left (East) is Dry Lake (1.5 miles, 9,000 ft) and to the right (west) is Dollar Lake (2miles, 9,300 ft.).
There was a fire happened in 2015 ( Lake Fire ) and it was reopened in 2017. [ Informations courtesy of San Gorgonio Wilderness Association ].

RedWhite&Blue 78 Thanks, Jason. I think the snow that is present by now will be there for awhile so that means the lake will be full of water maybe for another two months. Hope to catch up with you soon. Tc

Hike2BHuman It was fun indeed. Still had a lot of wild flowers and so much water all around especially in South Fork Meadows. The picture of the lake with mountain on the its background looks like in the Sierras. Thanks, Donny. Tc

Watched your awesome video on my lunch break and really enjoyed it. I've only seen pictures of dry lake so full. Even gone up in April and May in previous years only to find a dry lake. Really makes me want to get up there soon. My grandpa passed away about 10 years ago and it was his wish that every member of the family get a small amount of his ashes and take wherever they hold dearest. I took a small amount to Joshua tree....where we'd picnic....and the rest I spread around dry lake. That lake has a very special place in my heart and whenever I hike up south fork I feel like grandpa is with me. Thx for sharing Robert. One of my favs! Also gonna have to charge you for your last line in video lol....happy trails brother!

MJW MJW That’s a great story about your grandpa to be told.. from now on I will remember your story about that place. I’m really looking forward to spent at least one night there this summer, can’t resist the beauty of that area. South Fork is awesome. Thanks, Mark and happy trails to you as well. Hope to see you in Spruce Grove meet-up next month..

One of my favorite spots in all of SoCal. It's like be in the Sierra, but in the San Bernardinos. Good work buddy and thanks for the shout out. That was a great birthday that year!

Question for you: 1) what slider are you using (6:42) 2) would you say it’s worth carrying or do you think it’s not worth the extra weight. Thinking of doing the San Bernardino Divide Trail and am contemplating getting a camera slider. Thanks!

Samuel Sevilla I used a Grip Gear Movie Maker 2 Camera Slider & 360 Panorama System. It is available in B&H and other online camera gear stores. Definitely worth the weight, it’s actually not heavy just need some space in your pack. I brought it in my HST hike last year for 8 days up to Mt Whitney.

fivemoreminutes wow! I was looking into something like that but being such a novice in the camera world I didn’t know what type of slider to look into. Hard doing lightweight backpacking with the additional gear but it seems like you’ve made a way to make it work. Thanks for your reply and enjoy your weekend! Great vids and look forward to seeing more! Happy trails

Samuel Sevilla Thanks. I’m just a hobbyist just like some hikers out there. If you use an action cam like GoPro then you’re good. I use a mirror less cam and the slider still hold up. Sometimes I even carry 4.5 lbs of cam gear in a multi day hike. Happy trail as well.

Hanging on the Trail Hey, buddy.. how’s everything? Hope all is well with you. Yeah, it’s so like you’re in the Sierras. The ducks I think are becoming accustomed to people maybe because somebody was throwing food at them. Yeah, the dog was playing fetch with the owner, it was hot that day. Hope to see you soon. Thanks, Don.
