Heyo, science fiction nerd here who absolutely loves correcting Ellie both in real life and on the net. She's incorrect about one minor fact in the Dune series. Sandworms did not evolve or originate on Arakkis. In Children of Dune, Leto ii states "The sandtrout(essentially a larval form of the sandworms) ... was introduced here from some other place. This was a wet planet then. They proliferated beyond the capability of existing ecosystems to deal with them. Sandtrout encysted the available free water, made this a desert planet ... and they did it to survive. In a planet sufficiently dry, they could move to their sandworm phase." The crucial secret to understanding the ecosystem of Arrakis is that it isn’t actually a desert planet. It used to have open bodies of standing water, even oceans. When the Sand Trout, the larval form of the Sandworm, was introduced to the planet (they are not indigenous), they multiplied enormously, as there were no natural predators. They encapsulated almost all free water on the planet, forming living cisterns under the sand by interlocking their bodies with the planet’s bedrock. This created the nearly water-free environment that the Sandworms need. However, if you try to start the lifecycle anew on a planet where there is no water at all, the Sandtrout and the Sand Plankton that both the Sandtrout and Sandworms feed on, cannot survive.

you mentioned Vulcan from Star Trek, another interesting one from Star Trek is Wolf 395 which is a star located about 8 light years from Earth, which is a real star but in Star Trek is the site of a massive star battle which is a major plot point in Star Trek the Next Generation and has big repercussions throughout the franchise following.

Fun fact: red dwarfs may flare a lot, but apparently they do it mostly from much higher latitudes than sunlike stars, which means their flares are very unlikely to ever hit any planet that might be orbiting them with more than a grazing shot.

In one of the silver to bronze age Superman comics, Krypton is initially tidally locked to Rao.... early Kryptonians used giant magnets of sort at the planet's poles to force it to rotate. I thought that neat.

I believe that the existence of other planets and life in the universe out there we can't just be the only ones. I think things like this are more science fiction than fact, I think the real unknown world is here on Earth in our oceans.
