Thanks so much for the lovely tribute to people long gone. I love graveyards. My parent's first child, a little son, is buried at Ocean View and I've visited that graveyard often. He only lived a few days. My paternal grandparents are buried at Mountain View. I think it's time to pay them another visit....

I try to visit celebrity grave sites when I travel. Its a great way to step away from the usual tourist sites, and see the final resting places of some notable people. A few of my favourites were Evel Knievel in Montana, Ernest Hemmingway in Idaho, and of course Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee, and Jimi Hendrix, all in Seattle. Locally, my favourites are, of course, Terry Fox, and Greg Moore. He is in the Robinson Memorial Park in Coquitlam. I'm sure he is already on your list for a future episode. Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod is also in Oceanview.

I have been to the gravesites of Jimi Hendrix, Bruce & Brandon Lee...all 3 are superb to visit! I love the history of cemeteries!! I didn't know Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod was buried in Oceanview. He was a fantastic guitar player and lost his life way too soon.

Goes To 11 thank you my friend. I was hoping to get down to Jimis grave again for the 50th anniversary of his death but unfortunately the border is still closed. 🎸🎸🎸
@GoesTo114 жыл бұрын
@@jcvancouver yeah, I don't think the Border situation will change any time soon. About 5 years ago I had the pleasure of getting to meet and know Uli Jon Roth of the Scorpions and took him to see Jimi's gravesite monument. it was an amazing day! I have kept in contact with Uli ever since and he now plays in Vancouver when he does his tours annually. This year was the first year he has not been able to tour due to COVID restrictions. I hope 2021 brings change for us all.
@jakeinvan4 жыл бұрын
@@GoesTo11 Hendrix's memorial is spectacular. I spent a long time at that one. Bruce and Brandon Lee's graves are really cool as well. Brandon's looks like something from Star Trek. Theirs are also quite easy to get to when you get to Seattle. Quite close to I5.

Yet another superb video!..thank you for this!.. A request albeit off topic, could you please consider doing a video about the famous Misty's Cabaret on Hornby?..I had played there in a band in the early 80s and would love to hear about it's illustrious history as I wasn't aware of these facts way back when. I've done a lot of digging but unfortunately have come up with very little, and it simply wouldn't be the same with yourself presenting it👍 Cheers😊

You missed a Vancouver icon in doing this video. Vie Moore was a 'fixture' on the DTES and, from her restaurant, Vie's Chicken and Steaks, she took care of a whole bunce of black actors, dancers and singers in an era where they could play in the hotels and theatres, but could not eat or sleep in them. She was my grandmother and I met many celebs including Pearl Bailey, Earl Grant and many others. She was a legend before she passed in the 1970's. She's buried at Ocean View along with her daughter, my aunt, Ellen.

Like your videos 👍 Have you considered Slumach's grave? The Katzie Indian who claimed to have a secret mine ... the location of which remains a mystery. Some claim when he paddled up the alouette river he connected to old indian trails leading to the goldfields routes. He would then 'lay in wait' robbing miners enroute to the assayers. His family says he was buried in SAPPERTON. Thanks.

Suggestion: The grave of George Thorburn can be found in an appropriate spot in Mountain View Cemetery, close to East 33rd Ave. George was the motorman of the interurban tram "Sumas" on that fateful morning, 10 November 1909, the date of the Lakeview Disaster. A freight car got loose at the site of Nanaimo Station, and rolled down the hill, striking the oncoming passenger train at the site of Cedar Cottage Garden, at Hull St. and Victoria Drive. 14 people were killed in the wreck. In recognition of the site as a place of significance, the gardeners built a tool shed that is a 3/4 scale replica of the station building that once stood there. Why was george Thorburn's grave site especially appropriate? It was right next to the training track on East 33rd, where many motormen got their first lessons. If you look carefully at the tall monument, you might catch sight of coins jammed in the cracks. There are people who still pay their respects. As one of a handful of licensed interurban motormen left in the province, I make a point of leaving a coin there, too.
