Several years ago, I was a lot like Arthur Dark in that I toured cemeteries throughout the country, marveling at the famous grave sites I could find. I still believe I am the only Heisman Trophy voter who has visited the grave site of trophy namesake John W. Heisman, who is buried in an obscure cemetery in northeast Wisconsin. Five years ago, however, my wife died very suddenly and I lost any interest in touring cemeteries. Only when I discovered the Hollywood Graveyard series did I come to grips with my grief and begin to renew my appreciation for how we honor those who have gone before. Thank you, Arthur, for restoring my interest in these great places of remembrance.
@lauraguida84824 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for your loss, Mark. Heisman is buried in Rhinelander, WI, in city-owned, Forest Home Cemetery, which was his second wife's hometown. If you ever get a chance to get to New Orleans, the above-ground cemeteries are so interesting. Lots of large ornate mausoleums - just do not go at night! Sketchy area.

@@HollywoodGraveyard Mr. Dark I can tell you of a time when I went to Hollywood Forever in the mid 2000s. Alas, I made an offhand remark around the Rudolf Valentino grave and I can tell you, whoever was his fan or protector, or someone did NOT like that. I felt a very unpleasant sensation the entire time I was in the mausoleum. As I stood in the hallway where the statues of the apostles stood, that presence got very strong, very much "Leave now" type vibe. I am not one to be spooked off by such things but that was enough to make me leave. Felt like I was being watched all the way out the door. Haven't been back since but I shall do so with flowers and an apology for rude behavior.
