When I was 19 I got a job in Beverly Hills as a receptionist in a design store on Robertson Blvd. It was such a fun job as I met so many actors and actresses, most who were lovely and gracious and some not so much. These included Doris Day , Connie Stevens, Robert Reed, Andy Griffith, Dean Jones, Jack Lord and his beautiful wife, and many more. My favorite though was Cliff Robertson. He asked if he could use the phone on my counter to make a call. He put a dime on the counter as that was the cost to make a call from a phone booth back then. I told him he didn’t have to pay for his call but he handed me back the dime, telling me he always paid his way. We had a little chuckle, he made his call then off he went. He was so kind and I have never forgotten him. I am a grandmother now and look back on this time of my life with great fondness.

Hayden Rorke WAAAASSS, I Dream of Jeannie. Without "Dr. Bellows" reactions to "Jeannie" and "Tony's" supernatural antics, where would the humor be? His facial expressions kept me rolling. The majority of the show's plots were centered around keeping him in the dark. Larry Hagman was a recovering alcoholic who eventually needed a liver transplant. I'm not surprised his shopping cart was full of liquor. Poor soul!! He had it all: good looks, good health, great acting ability, lots of money.

I loved I dream of Jeannie. I’ve been lucky enough for me to meet many superstars from days of our lives and General Hospital. But my favorite person to me was Richard Chamberlain from Dr. Kildaire. He was staring in the sound of music in Detroit and my dad wrote his people a letter and he agreed to meet me unbeknownst to me. After that meeting my dad bought me a original Richard Chamberlain painting for Christmas and then we also saw him in a Monty Python play. When he heard that my father died he called me from England to give me condolences we have stayed in touch ever since

Your visits bring into perspective the mortality of all humans, even if they were so-called celebrities. Their bodies rest among the lesser-known. As generations pass, each personal story is eventually buried with the body. And fame takes no precedence over anonymity, except when your compassionate videos shed a brief spotlight within which you share prominent and obscure facts about the departed. Close encounter: Singer Mike Smith of Dave Clark 5. He seemed like he'd be as nice in person as was his stage persona. I'd look all around, hoping for a glimpse of him at a local concert or even supermarket in his then-neighborhood, when I visited friends in that area of London. Eventually I met him in Rochester, NY in 2003 after his reunion concert. Ironically, just a 2-hr. drive from my home. His vocal cords were pristine as on his recordings. More importantly, he truly WAS as nice in person🌹 Alas, he died, his body cremated, w/ no final resting place to visit at this time. Thank you again, Steve, for your fascinating posts & personal touches w/ us admirers of your work 🌹

Hi Steve. Another good video. I worked at the Sydney Opera House as a theatre usher for over 10 years so I’ve seen or met lots of celebrities and politicians and some royalty. I met the King of Sweden (I think it was Sweden), British PM John Major, several Australian Prime Ministers, Fran Drescher, I saw Cyd Charisse who came to see the ballet, Billy Connelly and his wife who were there on News Years Eve, Aussie tennis player Pat Cash, Olivia. Elton John, Tony Bennett, as well as local Aussie celebrities. Almost all of them were pleasant. A few had some rules that had to be followed, like Bette Davis who was in a wheelchair, and was taken by one staff member up in the back stage elevator to the concert hall to perform her one woman show on the proviso that the staff member didn’t look at her or speak to her. That was a fun time in my life.

I had only two unexpected encounters with celebrities in 1970, one of which would lead to work. I was in North Hollywood driving to my girlfriends house and needed to pick something up for our lunch. I found a small market and went in. That’s were I met Martin Milner. I remember him as being very friendly and not at all worried about being recognized. For the second encounter I was crossing a street in Hollywood, Sunset, and saw Dick Clark having a snack at the outdoor portion of the restaurant. As I was just starting my career in radio, 93 KHJ, I went over to him and asked if he had any advice for a beginner. To my shock he asked me to sit down and within about an hour we were headed back to his office where he asked me if I had ever thought about doing interviews. He set up the first interview with Regis Philbin, and that went so well I was interviewing Mel Torme, Rody McDowel, Art Linkletter, among others. My favorite interview stretched out over three days with John Wayne at one of his homes in Newport. So you see, I had good luck with my encounters, no bloodshot eyes, just two nice guys and some pretty interesting work.

One star that I had a brief encounter with was one of the former hosts of the weekly comedy show, Real People. It was Byron Allen. Met him as he was doing a scene from a movie set in Boston, Mass when I was about 17 years old.

I heard and have read Larry Hagman actually was a very nice person and generous and loving . Nothing like what people thought as he was so convincing as JR . I absolutely loved I Dream of Jeanie growing up . I wished I had powers and blinked my homework done lol . The comedy in these old shows is just so different and missing today. I miss those types of silly shenanigans in programs I guess that was just the 60’s & 70’s . Plus all those passed actors were so well cast and so likeable . Thanks for remembering them all Steve

that's nice to hear and i agree. i think we would all love those powers :-) thanks, RC!

I had always heard the same thing, too, about Hagman being very generous, that came from his "dallas" costars, Charlene Tilton, Linda Gray, and Patrick Duffy. I don't think I've heard one negative word about him from the cast.

Friday morning...coffee...and another great vlog of memories of the past. As I have stated before our cable in Vegas plays all of the great shows of the past. I watch I dream of Jeanie daily. I do know that you really like the character Jimmy Olsen from Superman. Well I watched 36 hours of Superman this past weekend on Decades tv. Even though these shows are from the past we are able to watch the reruns forever.Best wishes from Vegas

wow, you have such great tv channels there. we get some, but not as many as you. 36 hours! you are a true fan! it is wonderful that these tv channels are preserving the past. thanks, norma, and have a nice week!

I once came across two celebrities years ago in Las Vegas. Hervé Villechaize (Saw playing the slots machines couple of months before he committed suicide) and Sara Rebecca Abeles (Ran into her as I was leaving the elevator at a Casino in Vegas when she was a teenager back in 1993).

My wife and I shared a flight with Suzanne Somers many years ago. We were just behind first class where she was sitting, but I recognized her despite the ballcap and sunglasses. We all had connecting flights in Salt Lake City, and she was waiting for someone at the bottom of the jetway. We made eye contact as we walked by and she could tell we recognized her. She smiled and seemed to appreciate that we granted her privacy.

That's awesome that you met Larry Hagman, even if he wasn't in the mood to talk. The tour guide at Southfork Ranch told us some his ashes were sprinkled there, and the rest at the grave of his mother, Mary Martin. We found both her grave, and that of Larry's father, Benjamin Hagman, on our recent trip to Dallas.

Hi Steve, I love all of your videos! I had a run in with Arron Tipton. He acted like he was hoping no one would recognize him. I didn’t bother him.

Great 👍 research ! It was very special to see the wonderful (actors & actress’s) who have sadly passed away on a wonderful TV 📺 series ........‘ I dream of Jeannie’ 💓 all the actors were just wonderful to watch. Great acting and still a extremely funny show & still watching today in 2020 giving us all laughter & joy. RIP the cast of this powerful series. 🙏

Thanks Steve. This was a great tribute to all the members of I Dream of Jeannie. Barbara Eden was here in Perth, Australia about 2 months ago. My kids went to meet her. Barbara has always been one of my favourite actresses. God Bless her and I wish her a long long life. 🤗❤️💕

Everyone will eventually leave this life...including all of us here. That's the circle of life. You are born..you do your thing and you leave. Let's live life to the best that we can while we STILL can. as I write this in Nov 2019, BARBARA EDEN outlived all the cast of I Dream Of Jeannie. Barbara, thank you for being the amazing talent that you are that the world loved and still loves. There wont be another Hollywood actress as talented as you for a long time to come.

I had an encounter with actor Bob Crane (Hogan's Heroes). He was signing a guest book in Round Rock Texas during Frontier's Day. I was behind him in line and signed my name under his.

During the 70s I worked as a salesman in Harrods London in the TV & Radio Department for 3 years. There was no end of celebrities & Royal Family coming to shop there. My wife was working behind the counter downstairs in the Pharmacy dept, so both of us served our fair share of many well known people. We even kept a list of who each of us had attended to, but unfortunately that somehow disappeared over the years including various autographs which we had cheekily asked for. There were lots of fleeting sightings of actors and Royalty moving through the various departments and in some cases it was not easy to recognize them "off screen" as many looked just like normal shoppers. It took me 5 minutes before I realized I was selling Jane Fonda a cassette player. No problem recognizing Michael Caine though. I sold him items on 3 occasions. (Maybe it was because he thought I was a good salesman that kept him coming to me for assistance, or perhaps it was the Aussie accent :) John Wayne, Paul Newman (he purchased a water pick for his teeth) were on my wife's list & IIRC Liberace, among others. Unfortunately my 75 yo memory has slipped a little so that lost list would have come in handy.

I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Loggia and his wife when visiting my daughter in L.A. about 15 years ago. They had just eaten at a food court in one of the malls there. They were so incredibly kind and gracious that I just wanted to invite them to our home for Christmas dinner!

Met and got to talk at length with William Shatner at Autorama in Detroit in ..I believe 1984---- I brought up his SNL performance and how funny I thought he was...that got his interest , and we talked for 15 minutes while many people waited in line. ! I was in my early 20's and was excited beyond belief !!!!!
