Yep. I prefer the older stuff. Those actors were experienced.

Um, if I might... one word: Silverado

I can understand 'reinvigorate' when measured by box office success. However, as an old timer, I can't help lament the direction of the newer Westerns towards ostentatious gore/violence. These movies won't get boosted at the box office by me....

I'm with you. I did watch Hateful 8 and thought it was the worst movie I had ever seen. If I had paid to watch it, I would have been really upset. I did give it a chance to have some redeeming features, but NO, none.

I have seen worse movies including westerns A Time For Dying, White Comanche and The Desperados), but it does NOT mean I liked it. About a 3 on a scale of 1-10.

Reinvigorates in this context is more in line with shining a light on the genre. In turn creating more interest in the genre. I found reference online that recognises these westerns. Not my personal choices. Hence my asking for input from the viewers. As far as individual opinions on specific westerns is not really helpful. Thats why I avoid doing it myself in most cases.

@@famouspeople63 OTOH, your individual opinions on specific Westerns is of great interest to us! That's typically what sets apart one youtuber from another :)

@@DotSantoro I liked it, but I'm a Tarantino fan, and to me it's more a noir than a Western. Generally, though, I agree about modern Westerns, less because of the gore and more because they tend to be extremely nihilistic.

How can you not have stagecoach on this list and I must say some of this list is questionable 🤔
@davidbrown386Ай бұрын
Wrangler: You forgot the most obvious film that reinvigorated the western genre. The Big Trail: Why? After the end of the silent era, there were a couple of years when western films could not be shot outside, because of sound limitations. Despite the fact the film flopped, The Big Trail followed by Cimarron ended that

Ah, ok, wasn't thinking back that far, thanks

1939 "Stagecoach" omission was huge. So was 1964 "A Fistful of Dollars" (even though For a Few Dollars More, GBU, and Once Upon a Time in the West were better films).

👎 Hateful 8, the Remanent. IMHO, should have included Silverado.

To ne honest I didn't like most of the modern films. The Hateful Eight and The Revenant were exceptions. Ravenous might be worth a mention, a sort of horror western.
@MonteVanVleetАй бұрын
I would not include "Hateful Eight," the weakest film from Quentin Tarantino. Too long, basically on one set, middling to bad performances from Sam Jackson, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Channing Tatum. There was some originality to it, but not enough to justify being on this list. Unforgiven and 3:10 to Yuma are well placed, as are the rest of your choices. I enjoyed the video.

Hateful Eight is not the weakest film by Tarantino LMAO 🤣
