I am just glad to see our(African American) HBCU FAMU band and band camp back. Our HBCU's have been through so much. Can we celebrate one another and not tear one another down as the lavender man has tried to instill in us. I said tried because at this point, it a choice.

Some of these comments are laughable. You do realize this is a showcase to FAMU summer band camp (mostly high schoolers) participants. This band on the floor is comprised of some current '100 members AND "alumni" who come back and volunteer for the camp. They're in the gym because there is construction on-going in Bragg stadium where they usually have this showcase. So, for these "musicians" to come back and spend their summers giving back to the university and to aspiring high school musicians is quite honorable. And, for them to remember moves and music like this...simply astonishing. As for what the SWAC bands will do...come on now, most of them don't want FAMU sleep. FAMU and BCU i might add will bring a level of musicianship the SWAC is not accustomed to. Over bearing/blasting brass bands might appease a young non-musicians ear but those of us who are students of the craft will appreciate a full band with brass, wind instruments, and percussion. We don't need dancing girls to distract from our horrendous playing and lack of memorized musical pieces; and i don't mean show tunes. FAMU band is bringing a touch of class to SWAC's wac ass....lol

I love this!!!! My high school band director graduated from FAMU and brought that to us. He was at an all black high school (Blake High School in Tampa, FL) which I was looking forward to going to, when integration happened . We all ended up being bussed to Plant High School where the Mayor’s kids (and others) attended, and they didn’t want us there. I didn’t find out until his retirement that he kept band members in the band room while “people” were rioting in the school. At that reunion, another school was having a reunion and heard the music, and said they came to our games because of our halftime shows. But we caught hell at competitions, even with our lights out show. I also found out that when he went to high school, they WROTE music for assignments! He died recently, and I can’t even explain the hurt, but the memories (like yesterday-almost 50 years ago) are vivid. We not going to talk about when I was little at the Gasparillla parade when the band was all male...that’s how old I am!!!

This is summer band camp most of these students are high school students from 9-12 grade.Some of the alumni band members.I think they sound fantastic. for only knowing the music and dance routine in one week.

To be quite honest SWAC bands are not that good…BCU and most definitely the marching 100 will be just fine this year. When y’all bring that mess down to Bragg stadium or Daytona beach people will be looking at y’all crazy with those washed up drills, and dance routines. And just one more for the road y’all not even that much louder or in most cases louder at all to sacrifice your sound quality for volume, it’s a losing proposition imo.
