The 100 is slowly but surely getting back to themselves. I think SU had the better field show but not by a landslide. FAMU's drill could have been cleaner and more intricate. I heard a few issues with the tubas too. The show was clean but kind of boring until the mascot part. Su was a little more entertaining. I am liking Famu more than Cookman so far this season.

marc d. Well the sound concept FAMU had required them to be on point in tone and pitch. Here they are still struggling to get back to it. They sound good and better than most, but there are some tempo issues, some intonation issues ( although not over the top), and the music fails to give the energy and feeling like it should and had done in years past. The ballad had a nice feel here though. The presentation on the field isn’t crisp when you look at lines, the show was just ok. Now FAMU usually don’t have the straightest lines but they use to make it up in quality of sound, feel, and showmanship. They are definitely headed in that direction but are clearly struggling and has been since that set back happened some years ago. Can’t wait for them to either get back to the old FAMU or reinvent a new FAMU.

The way Bragg is set up, unless you are recording from the direction the band is facing, there will be a significant amount of echo, adding to the illusion that the band is out of tempo when quite frankly they are in perfect tempo, watch their feet and the coordination of the snares, there’s no tempo issue, just an echo from the stadium.

When band members are spread apart in the stands like Famu, it affect the sound. SU not only look tight, They sound tight. This is the problem with band culture today and it started with the SWAC [unfortunately]. People would rather hear bands overblow/crank just for the sake of playing loud and overpowering the opposing band. It gets even worse when elementary level songs dominate what a lot of bands play nowadays. Mf's playing one note and screaming to the top of their lungs through the horn...on one whole note. 😐 And a lot of times that one whole note is out of tune in several instruments. If you're lucky, you may hear a flurry of 16th notes and 32nd notes, but still out of tune because the band is pushing too much air through their horns smh

Famu's drills are s little high schoolish. Maybe there are just too many people. You can really hear their missed notes. The transitions from song to song sounded like a weird mixed tape. Maybe they lack confidence. And why does the announcer keep calling them the 100 when there is clearly over 300 members in that band. No shade; just facts. Now Southern has confidence no matter who chooses to clown them. Their confidence comes thru in their sound.

They're called the marching 100 because Dr. William P Foster (the founder of the band) had a dream of having 100 ppl on a marching band. And its just stayed the same since then. He's the reason marching bands play pop music instead of marches during halftime and stuff. He turned mband on its head basically.
