Though the size of the 1980 Marching 100 was not the size of Marching 100 of the mid to late 70’s you can still hear the power they put thru those horns ( Natural Born Smoke)!! Notice the tempo the band played and marched to FAMU Spirit right after that dance routine! Physical Conditioning no doubt about it! When I saw this show as a 12th grader in Jville, I made up in my mind that I HAD TO BE in this band come Hell or High Water!! We took this dance routine to New York Yankee Stadium my Freshman year 81 for Pre-Game... New York went crazy and Grambling’s Band knew they were in for a HARD DAY’S NIGHT!! Great memories, Keep em coming! Hubba!!

Yeah this band to this day is Epic…..that slo mo death March is classic and the drum major routine exhibit a style classic sharpness and precision untouchable. Still love to watch their entrances and exits. As an older person now you can see how young they really. We’re but looking and acting much older. This does prepare them for discipline and focus

We use go to all the FAMU games in the Gator Bowl in the '80s. I was probably at this game. Nothing was better than the the band at halftime. I heard some Kool and the Gang, Diana Ross, Larry Graham music in this show. The Marching 100 was holding it down!

Excellent show. First time band traveled that year. I was a freshman trying to make the Z....We practiced hard and had leaders who instilled discipline which carried over to the field. Did you hear the tempo going into concert band? Remember, this was only the 4th game of the season. ,CP bka "Tattoo" c/o 80

That "Rattle" into concert formation was truly Epic back then. The speed, the intensity the showmanship!! What I grew up on when my father was in the band in the late 60's.

I love watching squad sectored bands! Most are sliding sectored nowadays. I like to watch them because the hs band I'm in is a squad sectored one! It's nice to see bands who also use those formations. Plus it helps me get an idea of how certain moves should look! Thank you for posting this : )

Kamran Shabazz if you watch the TxSU halftime show from this year vs GSU you'll hear them playing a rattler cadence and fast marching at the beginning of their show. Often imitated, never duplicated.
