Wow, I didn't expect to hear FAMU playing the songs that they played here. I definitely love the song selections FAMU played here. I'm sure it threw JSU Directors in a loop, because they expected to hear a lot of marches. Man this is exciting hearing them play selections other than marches.

FAMU is going to be FAMU. No matter the song, you are gonna get the full orchestral sound. Their technique is what makes them sound clear as a bell. Other bands are good as well, just use a different technique.

@@Bmillz95 Oh they definitely changed here (Song choices), because the SWAC didn't expect to hear them playing all the amazing songs that they played here. I surely didn't, but it was nice hearing them play songs other than marches. I mean even FAMU own people all in the comments excited and talking about it. I'm sure that threw JSU Directors in a loop, because they didn't expect that at all. Also, no one ever wanted or expect FAMU to change their style of play. Everybody love FAMU sound, but as for song selections...yes, and they did that here! FAMU style of play is what makes them unique, and that's a beautiful thing. SWAC fans only gripe about FAMU is that we never really hear them playing up to date popular music at football games like SWAC bands. At least not on a consistent basis. That's it! You have to admit, selections like Marches, SOS, Say La La, and Ice Cream Man are staple songs for FAMU at football games, but after seeing them here, I'm super excited and look forward to seeing them. As far as marches go, SWAC bands play marches only during zero quarter during warm up exercises.

Jackson State is on another level for me. Phenomenal!!! Always consistent. Very versatile as well. Book full of marches. In Storm and Sunshine Them Bases Stars and Stripes just to name a few. This is one band I always travel to see.

I was part of their high school band camp two years ago and they said that marches were the foundation of a good marching band but I never see them play any marches or technical pieces. Although jsu has more technical pieces, I think this should give u enough to know that jsu has technical pieces and skills. Swac knows jsu has technical pieces.

I just realized some Famu fans replied inquiring about my opinion my bad for not noticing earlier. I seriously doubt that was JSU's whole book. Quite honestly, I think they played enough rounds for that battle. I didn't hear anything interesting or exciting (to me) from FAMU. Furthermore, they don't sound like much even with the camera being closer and their trumpets could benefit from some extra breathing practice/training. The trumpets were meh from the start but it became really obvious they wore out throughout the battle. Also, I hate long endings that are harmonically uninteresting 11:23 was a huge NO for me. All in all I only give FAMU 2 of 8 (maybe a debatable 3) rounds of the battle so I would call that a slight dub for JSU. If the battle was interesting it would be nice to see more but it wasn't. I think JSU took it easy on them by not cranking up on FAMU after they played a couple of duds (especially that Imagine Dragons, that was actual trash never bring that back to a swac 5th again the unison parts in the chorus brought no heat whatsoever and sloppy execution on the tonguing by those trumpets). All in all I don't think either band sucked overall it just wasn't much of a battle to listen to in comparison to what we are used to.

I agree that there were a few misses, but that's because the Boom takes chances that a lot of other bands don't. They'll get better as the year progresses.. I look at FAMU as a safe band, and that's not really a slight. It just makes it easier to have a better quality sound.

Both bands are just what I expected, BASIC!! jsu loud as usually, Famu some ol arrangement but Famu shock me with the imagine dragon song I'm a believer. Since there seems to be a nasty feud in the post, yall need to go check out Texas southern and Norfolk state bands, both have changed the dynamics and the arrangement, their sounds were clear both band's music styles have become diverse. For TSU to be such a small band they blew PVU out the stadium and into the back of the parking lot and PVU did not expect that one, so take note jsu and Famu.

Every swac bands plays marches, they are nothing special. Famu is still stuck in 1990s. U will hear marches from all swac schools during warm up. Jsu didnt play a march during zero qtr. When famu decided to play its 1st zero qtr song, jsu shot famu down quick with big balling. Im not a fan of big balling. Song is great but I'm not fan of it.

The 100 was the shit back in the '90s but it's a totally new ara, they need to step up their game and the thing is, I always have hope for the 100 because they have so much potential I just wish they would use it to the best of their ability.

Jsu book is deep that it could have played all of its old songs and still would have gave u guys an L. Also if you havent noticed, su gave u guys old music and still gave u an L. Famu needs to learn no band is wasting their book on famu until it steps its game up. Playing new songs, great job famu but please bring excitement, soul, and swag to your music.
