Every fan has bearings that are supporting a shaft supporting the wheel. Every bearing has an L10 life associated with it. The higher your L10 life, the longer your bearings should last, provided you maintain your bearings. So there are three things to maintaining your bearings. Grease according to the IOM schedule. Don’t over grease, don’t under grease. Second, make sure the temperature inside that bearing never exceeds whatever the maximum temperature for the grease is. In most cases, that’s 225 degrees Fahrenheit. The third thing is, make sure your vibration stays below the recommended fan manufacturer’s vibration level for your bearings. The lower your L10 life, the less longevity you’re going to get out of your bearings, no matter how well you maintain them.
