Two facts Donna said about her book in one of interviews people may forgot about - she said that if Julian was easier to write he'd have more prominent role (hello??). And second: she said she sees parts of herself in all of Greek class. Just thought itd be cool to share since we're all obessed here with TSH lol

ohhh love that first quote!! makes sense because in the podcast i mentioned they quoted the professor saying one of his most famous quotes was “historicity doesn’t ensure relevancy” he was a complex and seemingly kind of annoying person hahahaha & i love the idea of her being in all the greeks because then you can decide which good and bad traits of hers that she’s hidden in them!!

Somebody hire this woman to be a casting director stat! Seriously, I have been rereading TSH this week and have been pondering the cast. The Ruffalo suggestion hooked me in with its sheer genius and had me pouncing on the subscribe button. I have read TSH every year since I bought and read the cherub edition when it first hit the shelves. Your Gweneth Paltrow comment made me laugh, because when I first saw Shakespeare in Love, I grabbed my then-husband’s hand and squealed , “It’s Camilla!” I have always pictured Donald Southerland as Dr. Roland, because he is the go to goofy prof in Hollywood. I want to talk about this more, but I am too anxious to go now and see what other videos you have out there! Happy to be a new fan !

I literally finished reading tsh 7 hours ago and wasnt able to stop thinking about this immaculate piece of art since. oh you ate…would absolutely love to see elle fanning do the secret history, esp now that the great is done. wanna add that bret easton ellis has a new book adaptation in development, the shards as a series, at hbo, as it happens. think he’s the one writing too, though i’m 50/50 on prose writers doinb script writing. so i’m thinking donna will keep an eye on that whole affair, esp how much creative control BEE gets. (also hbo’s a cable tv channel, so if it goes on hbo it’d be better than if it goes to (hbo) max, though both are helmed by the same people, in an attempt to make max’s streaming “content” better. hbo is just more prestige, in a sense. and they get better budget, again, no proof of that but think it’d be easier to get a big budget on hbo than on max)

May I suggest Freddy Carter as Henry? He's got the looks, the eerily blue eyes, that misleadingly soft voice and gentle mannerisms and we *know* he nails every deadly/intimidating/haunted role he gets (see Jason Ripper and Kaz Brekker). Not to mention he's said tsh is one of his favourite books because of his tendency to enjoy morally grey characters most.

well she grew up in the south and was pulled from her school when it was desegregated by her parents and sent to a seg school and she says the n word in the audio book of TSH but she also wrote little friend and heavily critiques and vilifies her overtly racist characters so i think like most liberal white people from her generation she’s well intended and not outright bigoted but most likely has some unpacking she’ll never be able to do because of her lived experience & privileges

Ok so the Mark Ruffalo casting is fucking inspired! Especially with all the praise he’s getting right now for his performance in Poor Things…. like you were always a believer in him and I respect that. But I would like to suggest some other options for the casting overall. Richard - Timothee Chalamet, I think he could really give awkward yet mysterious and handsome Henry- Jacob Elordi, I mean the man is 6’5” and can be quiet and menacing yet alluring at the same time Bunny- Barry Keoghan, perfect choice Francis - Harris Dickinson, when I was reading the book I immediately pictured him even though I’ve literally never seen him act before lmao Charles- Rudy Pankow, again a perfect choice but I’d also suggest Mike Faist! I think he’s super talented and could also use this as the perfect break out role Camilla- Elle Fanning is perfect if Charles is Rudy but I think Kaitlyn Dever would also be really good! She’s who I pictured as I was reading and she and Mike look more related
