None of the radiation from the van allen belts effected him all the times he passed through. Now they say they don't know how to get through van Allen belts. They claim the radiation is so strong that shielding sensitive radio equipment and people would be very difficult. They say they would need multiple feet thick of solid lead or other rf shielding metal. Funny how they managed to get men on the Moon 6 different times between 1969 and 1972 with no issues during the Vietnam conflict. To this day not a single other human has been on the Moon. You would think if they had the technology to do it in 1969 that they would have improved since then, not the opposite.

@@TheAncientOneOfDays The Van Allen Belts are called after James Van Allen, who is credited with their discovery and also advised NASA on the Apollo Program. While travel through this region of space requires careful planning, it is not the insurmountable obstacle that many reality deniers, in their ignorance, imagine it to be. The Van Allen Belts is a region of charged particles originating mainly from the solar wind that are contained by the Earth's magnetic field. The capsule walls and equipment shielded the astronauts from the vast majority of the particle radiation. The radiation dosage received by an astronaut while passing through the Van Allen Belts will depend on factors such as speed, shielding, trajectory, time spend in the region etc. The aim of the Apollo missions was to minimise the time spent in this region of space and thus reduce the exposure to a minimum. Here is quote from James Van Allen himself in 2004. "the outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage - a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights". Take care.

I think Collins by far is the most personable followed by Aldrin...and Armstrong least.. Armstrong best pilot though. I will add this about Aldrin. He was an absolute engineering genius..He could solve extremely complex computations literally in his head..The guy was NASA'S answer to spacewalking when they didn't have an answer at all.. Somehow through the use of aquatics, he engineered a way to make it look easy..NASA at the time Considered the mastering of spacewalking as a vital step in the program to reach the moon, despite the fact it proved unneeded on 11s mission..Without him, I doubt the U.S. would have made it to the moon before 1970..

@@richarddobson3138 Yes, like Collins said he was like a master chess player, always several moves ahead. Collins was more down to earth or at least more self depreciating, but I think Buzz Aldrin's brilliant mind, which Collins admitted was better than his own, is underrated

@@paulinegallagher7821 Totally agree...Prior to 11s mission, there was a very slight bit of a rift between Aldrin and Armstrong about Armstrong being selected to be the first to walk on the moon..Aldrin said it wasn't so much with himself but it didn't sit so well with Aldrins father who tried a lot to get NASA's brass to change their mind. However after Armstrong's brilliant and pressure packed performance of having to fly and land the LEM himself on Low Fuel with manual controls after the computer had long overshot the Landing Site, I think Aldrin had gained so much respect for Armstrong that it was never an issue with him again..11 was very lucky to have Armstrong at the controls and I'm not sure that as brilliant a genius as Aldrin was and he was exponentially easily the smartest of the crew, that even he could have landed the Eagle in the same situation that Armstrong was faced with. Armstrong was like many of the Race Car Drivers of yesterday ..He kind of did everything by the seat of his pants and proved his worthiness many times for NASA..That having been said Aldrins meticulous analytical interpretation of the data and his instantaneous relay of the information to Armstrong was also very key for the landing being successful under those circumstances

@@richarddobson3138 Exactly, Neill was in the end the right choice because of his ability to keep a calm, level head and his technical skills as a pilot were needed when they had to find a different landing site. There was such an unassuming, quiet dignity to Armstrong that he was perfect choice for first man
