Now we both know. 😁 HERM, connects to the Hermetically Sealed Compressor FAN, connects to the Condenser Fan Motor COM, connects to the Contactor and provides power to the Capacitor. If the unit has two capacitors then one is the Run Capacitor and the other is the Start Capacitor.

To discharge a capacitor without a discharge tool you can just use insulated needle nose or screwdriver and cross the contacts, do it a few times to make sure. Great video!

Great video! Are capacitor failures fairly common on RVs like on residentials? H for Hermetic refers to compressor being hermetically sealed. Just means airtight. Thanks again.

I have the same problem but haven't looked at mine yet. I'm betting I have the same dual capacitor for fan and compressor. It didn't make sense that both the fan and compressor stopped working. I could hear the relay clicking but nothing happening. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to open it up to see what to get now. I may just get two and go ahead and replace the one on my other ac unit.

unrelated question: Is there a travel trailer cover to use during the winter while staying in the camper? Need it to cover , or have cut out for slide out too? Can't find such a thing. Maybe you can make a video of how to insulate and use a camper in the winter?

Been have trouble with dometic ac also. It will cool for a while then the fan will stop. it trips the breaker after it sits and gets to hot i guess. I got on the roof and gave the fan a kick start by manually spinning it and it would run a few hours. Then minutes. Now seconds.

So, you have three terminals. Common is self explaining. Fan is for the blower fan of course. Herm is for hermetically sealed compressor. You really need to discharge capacitors before you start working on them. Take your needle nose pliers and touch herm to common and fan to common and herm to fan. It’s a good thing you didn’t have to replace the unit! Mrs. Hillbilly might of had a little bit of a hard time sliding it up the ladder!
@hillbillyrv2 жыл бұрын
Shorting them like that is acceptable? It won't damage them? She does not do heights, so that would have been a problem.
@KevinCoop12 жыл бұрын
@@hillbillyrv It will not hurt them or you. Capacitors have a discharge count before failure. Or if they sit unused for many years. If you would like a clamp on AC/DC amp meter that will also test capacitors, let me know and I will send you a link. Around $20-$30. Kevin

@@hillbillyrv I discharge mine the same way with needle nose Kenny you are safe to do that just make sure the handles are insulated not bare metal. You can discharge them with your tongue like a 9volt battery too but only once! I wouldn’t recommend that method I’m sure the survival rate isn’t the greatest 😂
