Glad to have you back! Loved hearing you & Robert on his channel. Leeches being more Mel smoke & mirrors certainly seems plausible. I 100% feel that Tyrion was Littlefingers target at the Red Wedding though instead of Jof, way more evidence points to Tyrion and unlike Jof he has strong motivation to kill Tyrion

Shes a Shadowbinder at heart. She kills kings at will. Her deceptions are just tools she uses like a phillips screwdriver. We should never underestimate her. The show really pissed that character away. When she refers to "kingsblood" she isn't referring to Targaryan blood, not even just Valeryan. She's referring to the blood of the line of kings of The Great Empire of The Dawn, the bloodline of the Gemstone Emperors. That's where her power comes from, the heart of The Shadow, likely the location of the the Bloodstone that fell from the sky and caused the Long Night (shout out to Quinn and LML fist 🤜)

The power of prophesy, yes, but combined with the ability to make anything fit her predictions. It was a succession crisis, there would be important people dying- even if it hadn't been the those three, she could have twisted it so that it somehow fit.

Nice video! I think it is important to remember that causality/time is not necessarily linear. Bran/Bloodraven interact with the past (see Hodor). So while in the linear sense, a faceless man had already been hired to kill Lord Greyjoy etc., that does not necessarily imply that Mel had no part in that death.

I enjoyed this. I agree that GRRM plays with the concept of prophecy versus the idea od predicting from information available from far away. This is a great example of it in Mel, but the same happens with Jojen and the ironborn attack. Theon was already planning it. FYI, stretching to 10:01 is much better for the algorithm.

Here's a question, how did Renly really die? Do you have a physical suspect?
@TheDisputedLands4 жыл бұрын
So the three kings the leeches killed were balon greyjoy, robb stark, and joffrey lannister. Renly had already died well before the leech ceremony in a clash of kings via shadowbinder magic.
@smdcuolive67004 жыл бұрын
@@TheDisputedLands HI Disputed Lands thank you for responding. I was more asking if there were any theories surrounding it. It's one of the few magical deaths in asoiaf without some alternative explanation. All the other deaths Mel has tried to claim as her work were likely just predictions. But Renly was shadowbinder magic. So my question is more about how? How was it that relatively easy to create a shadow to kill Renly (no true sacrifice etc)? Yet most other magic is painfully difficult to perform, often doesn't work and almost always requires a sacrifice. What made it work really? Is it possible there was some form of misdirection and one of Renly's men killed him? Could it have actually been Brianne (mind controlled?). Like, why hire faceless men, why sacrifice at all when this method seems so effective? Something is entirely off about Renly's death.
@TheDisputedLands4 жыл бұрын
@@smdcuolive6700 oh, i can actually answer that. It was likely magical, but there was a cost. I may end up doing a video on it after i discuss king's blood.
@LNGD_464 жыл бұрын
@@smdcuolive6700 stannis looks more dead after the shadowbaby process. Watch the video of DL about grey king .
@smdcuolive67004 жыл бұрын
@@LNGD_46 Yea I've seen it and did a little light reading. Stannis produced shadow babies twice seriously depleting him (Renly, then the 3 Kings). For such an effective method of killing your enemies you would think there would be more stories of shadows killing people in asoiaf lore. If not recently, then at least in the histories. I think my point wasn't so clear. I was questioning the magical part of the story and whether it could be explained in some other way. I looked into it and the type of slash that killed Renly (cut through fine armour with a single slash) and the fact only Brienne and Cat were in the tent lends itself to being magical. Nevertheless it's an extremely efficient method of killing one's enemies and I can't help feeling perhaps GRRM either made this type of killing too easy or there may actually be something more at play.

If she could have manipulated him in the short term, because she did fore see the deaths that most likely could occur in the near future and tell him it was a "taste" and that Edric's life was needed to wake the dragons..... And if they had and the dragons had not awaken.... What would have happened? I often wonder that. Do we think they would have or could have awoken? Considering what we know about life paying for life and the "stone" dragons Daenerys awoke. Melisandre's visions are often hard to read with accuracy. If she had been able to resurrect stone dragons with Edric's blood would that have been fulfilling a prophecy or would it have been creating a "false return" based on misread foresight? Would only one stone dragon awoke instead, if any? Sorry, I'm even giving myself a head ache!!! I'll stop.
@TheDisputedLands4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Its hard to say. Melisandre fully believed and was commited to the idea that dragons would awaken if she could just get stannis to sacrifice edric. I dont think she has the right idea though and i dont think anything would have happened if stannis would have gone along with her plans. So it probably all worked in her favor in hindsight because stannis told her she would die by inches if she was lying. I also think the stone dragons awakening prophecy was all in reference to daenerys so we already see what was meant to happen in a sense.

Danaerys saw the shadow of a great wolf and a man when the witch was trying to keep Khal Drogo from dying. So if that was a life for a life, then Robb died for Khal Drogo. You did a video previously on king's blood and GRRM's use of the god-king of ancient cultures and cited the book... but kingship dates from before that. You even see this definition in the Book of Genesis... chapter 4 or 6. But when you look at the Danaerys chapter in A Game of Thrones when the witch uses the blood magic, Ser Jorah gives a good description of these ancient kings and what defined one from the context of Genesis when in the times of old when giants had walked the earth. Kings were heroes, not necessarily god-like. That came later with the divine right concept. But when you look at the funeral pyre scene, everything lines up with the king's blood having been spilled, and the holy person's amidst smoke and the salt of Danaerys' tears to wake the stone dragons. But this series of scenes may hint at Renly's and Joffrey's deaths as well because there had been other shadows glimpsed, they just weren`t elaborated on.

0:28 Blatant lie! It is true Baratheons have Targaryen blood, but none of them was ever a dragon rider. Magic will not help. A dragon IS magic, you cannot enchant them. Was Stanis raised in seclusion? Did not his father pass down family lore? He should have known it is the dragon that chooses the rider. You cannot force the bond. 8:05 You are wrong! Melisandre cannot see the future. She can see the now, very far away, but the future is closed to her. if she could scry the futures , she would have seen stanis fail. She would not have promised him a dragon. a boy's life ,even the bastard boy of a king, is not enough. Blood would amplify the call,yes, but you need the ability to call dragons first. you need the blood of the dragon in your veins. Like calls to like! One of the foundations of magic.
