Is it also Nike's fault that Mitchell & Ness quality immediately went south when Fanatics bought them? Why do most people despise Fanatics? Because they've been ripping people off for years. Those "lighter materials" are simply "cheaper materials". My "authentic" Evander Kane jersey has sublimated patches /numbering that is ironed on to the jersey. Fake stitching. The base material would get ripped quickly if used in an actual hockey game. Pitiful. 11:10 You nailed it. Fanatics is absolutely to blame, whether they like it or not. This entire situation speaks to how Baseball is run by people that have no idea how the players or fans feel. These changes were approved by a bunch of people who though "Good enough, who cares it's just a jersey" without understanding why the details matter.
@louiscypher41867 ай бұрын
It's Far Far worse than "good enough" it's "we need performance wear at any cost." The MLB is a "pro-league" so they want to impress everyone with how "sports science" the league is. They look and feel like shit because the MLB is more concerned about how many grams the jersey weighs then they about how it looks. All because some nerd told them they would increase the average player's ability to beat the throw at first base by 0.02% under ideal circumstances. It doesn't matter how much they spend when their attitude to the jersey is "how do we reduce wind resistance and saturation uptake whilst increasing passive cooling whilst stationary" then it's not being made for a person it's being made for a task.

I laugh at the performance aspect of these new uniforms. Baseball is a sport that doesn't necessarily demand lighter material. Batters get on base 20-30% of the time, 90 feet of running. Outfielders stand around most of the time. Infielders have a small radius they are responsible for. Pitcher works the hardest. Lineup sits on the bench waiting to bat every other inning. The game is not physically demanding like soccer,basketball,football. So much time to rest. There is no need for all of these changes. Possibly cheaper to make and increased profit margins more like it. Sweat...the Majestic/Nike were just fine for the sport.
@louiscypher41867 ай бұрын
The funny part is there's no way they are cheaper. The polyester and cotton account for 90% of the fabric markets. Just acquiring the base material for specialised wank jerseys are going to cost more. Then there's the machines, the designers etc, etc.

I’m so confused as to why Fanatics is even involved at all. Nike is a sports apparel company and so is Fanatics. Why isn’t Nike just making these directly themselves??? Also, people have every right to be pissed. This is blatant price gouging. Jerseys used to be a reasonable $65-$75. Now they’re like $180 for less and cheaper material. It’s absolutely insane.
@N8R_Quizzie7 ай бұрын
They were told they were doing well even though they knew they were cost cutting. When the 23 all Star game jerseys sold well they assumed that they should replace all of them. The reason why it was fine for the ASG is because we thought it would be a one off style and it wasn't comparable to anything we had before. They shouldn't have been cost cutting while charging more. They should've known that the style sucks. They should've known the pants were see through. They okay'ed all of this all through the process. Nike can't be complacent like this.

I’m a jersey collector, NHL and MLB mostly, but i also have a handful of NBA and NFL jerseys as well. However, I haven’t bought anything over the last year or two since Fanatics really came to play with the big boys. It’s almost like I’m paralyzed with fear to buy anything even remotely associated with them. I’m also legally blind, so I can’t just look at side-by-side comparisons on a screen and visually pick out all the mistakes. Same goes for any up close and personal real life inspections -- I just can’t see what an average person can and most of my “seeing” is done with my hands, so regardless of how well and/or how often i inspect a jersey, there will always be things about it that I miss. Therefore, I try to order from as many official sources as possible, heavily rely on the little blurb/write-up describing each jersey/product (even with as boiler plate as they tend to be), and lastly is just utilizing the fan community by searching for reviews that someone may have done on the exact product I’m interested in, and of course sometimes it’s just about reaching out to someone, anyone, everyone in the community for help until you find who or what you’re looking for. Everyone I’ve interacted with to this point has been more than accommodating. Bottom line, first, it was hockey, now it’s baseball… I’m not a big fan of what Fanatics is doing with jerseys/uniforms… They do make pretty decent hoodies though.

Fanatics has designers that work with the teams to come up with the approved designs. Similar to how Fanatics a few months back hired a designer in Tampa to work on the NHL designs for next year. It seems they may have rushed the process and surely all parties are to blame. How did MLB, Nike, the Team brand staff, and equipment managers all come to a conclusion that these uniforms were approvable? That's the big lingering question. At the end of the day the NHL may face a lot of the same flat patch and nameplate issues next year. It's a forgone conclusion that that they will want to reduce cost and use the "lightweight performance" justification. The only saving grace may be that the same manufacturing facility that Reebok / Adidas used will produce the player sweaters and this MLB situation came along at hopefully the right time. However, I will 100% guarantee that the fan-purchasable sweaters are going to be absolutely cost cut and of reduced quality.

But moreso than any of that, the crooked and off-center lettering on the back of some player jerseys is entirely on Fanatics. I seriously doubt Nike gave them a template for every single player name. Nike designed it and MLB approved it. The buck stops with MLB. Should Fanatics have refused the contract? If you think that Fanatics is to blame for agreeing to make Nike’s sub-par product you are shamefully naive about business in the modern world. People should lay off Fanatics on this issue and start talking about Nike a little bit, but mostly this is on MLB.

The only team not affected by this change are the Yankees. In fact, they did the greatest thing for their fanbase by changing the road jerseys. They're going back to the pre-Steinbrenner era unis worn by the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, Joe Di, Mickey, etc.

Fanatics’ comment reminds me of the Stonehenge monument scene in This Is Spinal Tap.

9:17 what was the material used before the change of jerseys?

If only Fanatics didn't have a well known reputation of immediately dropping the quality of any "jersey" product they touch ... they're probably just thinking if they dropped the quality "one tier" less no one would care.

1) If I were a baker and the client asked me to put dog shit in a cake, there would be a discussion, I wouldn't just do what I was told. 2) Fanatics can blame their history/reputation as the reason they're not getting the benefit of the doubt.

This might be the worst attempt at a smoke screen we’ve ever seen. Considering how terrible their products were before this year, there’s nothing more insulting as a consumer than a company trying to make us sound dumb.

Fanatics and Nike should know that fans are the ones who make them money. Fans like quality jerseys, not cheap looking jerseys.

Moving the MLB logo was so unnecessary. It was in a perfect spot before, it just throws off everything being moved.

Fanatics should be 100% at fault for shotty production; players are complaining about wonky placement on letters. I’m sure Nike or the MLB did not ask for that…

Fanatics is a terrible company in making jersey they cheap out to make more money. If no one buys them they will be forced to change it or lower the price. I know I am not buying them lol they just saved me a lot of money

I have gotten a new hotel room because the shower faced the wrong way. I’ve thrown out t-shirts because the logo is too heavy. If I were a player, something being completely different would throw me off.

I think it's fine to have a lesser option in jerseys. Not everyone wants to spend over $300 on a jersey. But as a hockey jersey collector, I'm not too excited about the lesser option being the only option, and you know darn well they aren't going to charge less. I'm not going to pay $300+ on a thin, cheap jersey. Looks like I'll be saving some money!

The people getting screwed are the fans. They raised prices and lowered the hell out of quality.

The statement just shows that Michael Rubin is good at trying to deflect blame. Don’t blame us, blame Nike and the players with endorsements. The fact that they created crap product everywhere else shouldn’t matter in this case. The only thing that will change it is if they take a loss on fan jerseys
@bradleymccampbell98087 ай бұрын
That’s the Fanatics mentality, whenever you get caught, just blame the person next to you. Some things never change, huh.
@tywalraven49367 ай бұрын
I’m amazed at the complete lack of accountability from Rubin. He’s the CEO of a company that’s shipping crappy knockoffs to be used by big leaguers on the biggest stage. He knows what’s going on, he’s 100% complicit in the sham, he’s acting as if his company is producing quality gear while he KNOWS it’s crap! Hearing his pathetic response makes it perfectly clear that he has no desire to right this wrong. Each team needs to make its own plan for equipping their players and ditching Fanatics for good.

Nike gave you the template, you screwed it up. I don’t hear college guys complaining about the same template because Nike produced it

Come on guys. We all know the changes to jersey construction were based on cutting cost. Those dri-fit materials are thinner, less expensive and easier to wear down than the traditional jerseys. Nike wanted to save money. This comes from a person that likes dri-fit and performance materials for the most part. I’d just prefer baseball jerseys to be a bit more substantial and weighty.
