Dude I really enjoyed this, I’m contemplating trying my hand at kit bashing and messing with styrene so watching this has truly inspired me. Brilliantly polished tutorial that really shows how much potential styrene has with a creative mind and a few tools 👍

You could use magnets to keep your set square in place as well. Maybe add a rubber backing to prevent sliding.
@FanatikBuilds8 жыл бұрын
Good idea! They would have to be very strong magnets though, either that, or you just couldn't push too hard. Still though, doable with the right materials! Thanks for commenting!

@BushPigADV7 жыл бұрын
It was... It is.. well it will be for sure ;) Your project really sparked my interest. The 130 hi-cap is a favorite of mine. I use to work at a custom Land Rover shop here in Maine, USA and we got to build some really cool trucks. We did 110 hi-cap but I never had the pleasure of doing a 130. You really captured the spirit of the vehicle in your build. keep up the good work!!

That's really cool! I've never even seen a defender pickup here in Ontario Canada. I do occasionally see a 110 wagon but it's amazing how expensive they are... Never tried vacuum forming styrene personally, but I don't see why not. Yes a dremel is commonly used, but a bit messy! I like the diamond tipped wheels best as they don't shatter like the normal cheapo disks.

While I've never used Foamboard, I do believe they are in fact different materials. Foamboard is typically a bit thicker and "airier" while Styrene is a much more dense plastic material. Styrene is also waterproof while I believe Foamboard is not.

+Mark Cheverie I use Humbrol Poly Cement, and Plastruct Plastic Weld. Also will occasionally use Gorilla super glue. Yeah it can get a bit messy for sure, but just hold back on the quantity, as you only really need a little bit. There will be a Part 2 coming at a point here, so some more tips will be in that episode. Cheers!

Hello! I am in Canada as well. I usually buy Evergreen Styrene, but it gets pricey. I am thinking of using Komacel or Komatex, but wanted to know where you got large Styrene sheets in Canada? Usually when I go online in Canada, I either need a customer number, they don't have the right size, shipping is crazy, or their prices are out to lunch. The US has so many options, no wonder people have given-up and buy everything on Amazon. Can you help me please? Thank you!

Where do you recommend purchasing styrene? I'm looking for a large sheet similar to the one in the video for vacuum forming a hull but cannot find at local stores. Also located in Canada, BC specifically; where do you recommend I search and do you know any locations I might find cheap reject cuts to work with? Also curious what sort of pricepoint would be reasonable. Thanks for the great guide.

Well I was able to source a supplier locally, don't think they would ship to BC though, and even if they did it probably wouldn't be worth it to you (I'm in Ontario). I got this 4x8 sheet of 0.040 for around $35 if I am remembering correctly. Sorry to not be of more help! Best of luck and have fun!
