That was a bracket and a half! It's always a juggling act - stiffness and weight, but that's a great job. I don't think OEMs put as much thought into wipers... Can't remember where the washer jets were on my Mk2, but more fun to come I'm sure! Thoroughly enjoyable video.

Harmonic balancers do not have a taper. They are bolted on with a key that holds the lower cam sprocket as well so a taper cannot be used.
@FanatikBuilds
@FanatikBuilds 16 күн бұрын
Keyways are not always used actually, they may be the norm but not when it comes to LS engines at least... ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-internal-engine/1860124-crank-snout-gouged-scored-balancer.html ... our aftermarket balancer has one, but the crank does not. The keyway for the oil pump gear stops short of the snout. You can drill and pin it in order to run a supercharger but that's not how these are equipped from factory. I did misspeak on calling it a taper though ... as another viewer mentioned, these use a press-fit connection. Apologies. ✌

I'll be fascinated to see what this thing weighs at the end. Undoubtedly it will be heavier (it's hard to change anything about the flimsy original design and get it lighter!), but I have no idea how much by. Will be a rocketship regardless, and still light compared to pretty much anything else on the road 👍
@FanatikBuilds
@FanatikBuilds 16 күн бұрын
You know it Simon! 😅 I've been weighing stuff as often as I can and am hoping to keep it around 2500lbs or less ... honestly not bothered if it's a bit more though, as most of the additional weight is further down and rearward. Time will tell, and we'll be scaling it when it's time to buy the coilovers ... so fingers crossed! 😬🤞 Cheers man, hope you are well, is your Spit on the roads?
@BiTurbo228
@BiTurbo228 15 күн бұрын
@@FanatikBuilds Excellent! Yeah it'll fly regardless, and 2500lbs in a good number to be aiming for considering what's gone into it 👍 excited to see the corner weighting! For reference in the standard seating position the driver weight is near as damnit 2/3rds rear 1/3rd front which helps the distribution a bit. Haha mine's still in progress unfortunately! House move, kiddo and a garage build have rather got in the way! Getting there on the last of those though and itching to get the Spit sorted after that. About time as I had one of those memory-photo things pop up that informed me I've had it 12 years! 😳
@BiTurbo228
@BiTurbo228 15 күн бұрын
@@FanatikBuilds Oh, and if you hit 2500lbs then your power to weight (accounting for the driver) would be about on par with a MK1 Viper (or an E92 M3) with a totally unmodified LS4, a C7 Stingray (or F80 M3) at 350hp, or being very ambitious a Charger Hellcat (or a 991 GT3 RS) at 400hp 😳 Power-to-drag is interesting too as the GT6 is quite a slippery shape and small. 187mph estimated top speed at 303hp (again E90 M3, or a TVR Sagaris), 197mph at 350hp (again C7 Stingray, or a Ferrari F40), or 206mph at 400hp (997 GT2 or Challenger Hellcat).
@BiTurbo228
@BiTurbo228 15 күн бұрын
@@FanatikBuilds Just cos this is fun, stock power would be a little better power-to-weight than Urchfab's Mushy Pea and about the same as Rocky Auto's RB30 240Z. 350hp is just a smidge less than a Flyin' Miata, and 400hp would be the same as Roadkill's Rotsun (back before they gave it 500hp and it was still making about 410). Just nuts!
@FanatikBuilds
@FanatikBuilds 15 күн бұрын
Love the numbers, thanks Simon! With the mods we've got in store, I'd say it's got to be a very bad day for our LS4 to not make 400hp! 😬 It's honestly more than I was initially planning for, and the clutch is now our weakest link (rated 354lb/ft) ... I am increasingly doubtful that it will be an issue though, as traction in 1st and 2nd will be limited, and topping out 3rd will be excessive for the street. (5th is geared for 216mph!) If we ever plan on tracking it someday though, a puck style friction disk will be in order! All the best to you with finishing up your other projects (and growing family!), I hope you can get back to the Spit again soon! ✌️👍

I'm curious what you're going to do for sound-proofing. The car will undoubtedly be fast, but it may be very loud inside making it uncomfortable to drive, which is okay for a race car (I guess), but presumably, you want to drive it to car shows and not always be in boy-racer mode.
