The telecommunications industry is betting billions of dollars that people are ready to start surfing the internet on their phones. Soon Canadians might be able to pay their cable television bill on their own mobile phones.
David Ticoll, an author and consultant, believed that the rolling out of wireless access would help the internet achieve its full potential as the year 2000 heads to a close.

I remember the first time I saw a Net enabled phone: Circa 2002, a coworker told me his phone could access the Web. I flat out challenged him on it, because of course I knew you could only access Web from a computer. He whipped out his phone, typed in the URL, and loaded ABC News website. My jaw dropped.

This whole mobile internet and cellphone thing is only a fad. It will never happen. We'll be back to sending smoke signals for long distance communications by 2024. One thing I am interested in, is how is his cable bill only $23, and in Canadian Dollars? (1:30) That needs to be your next news story. Your viewers will be thankful for life.
