Playing this was by far the best part of any of the stiff and stultifying high school graduations I attended as a student, including my own. Our school was huge so we played around and around the repeat while six or seven hundred kids marched (ambled).

Ah do I just love playing the graduation music for the seniors. Next year... it's my turn. It better sound good ;) That one guy who came in at the final seconds telling him to wrap it up or whatever, like come on, let them finish.

My school's band played the Avenger's Theme because they were too incompetent to learn the recessional. After the seniors left, the band was severely underhanded.

Cristobal Garces I am a retired High School band director. I did many graduation ceremonies, (probably 50 different graduations over the years) and this is a common thing. The seniors are gone and the other students are not as secure without the section leaders. They come back during the ceremony to play their favorite concert piece with the band (Imwould let them vote on which one to do. ) There was never enough time at the end of May, for the band to really learn the proper graduation music in the way we would learn other concert and competition music. Remember, there is finals in all classes, spring fever has come, and teenagers just don’t care sometimes. So, I played “Fanfare and Processional” many times. The audience does not care what you play. I would also bring in former band members, graduates, teachers, college students, to build up the band and fill the holes. Ah!! I don’t miss it at all!

Okay, either my sheet music of this is different than this version, or the snare drum just completely missed the measures at 1:12 and picked it back up around 1:27. I probably just have a different version, hopefully so because sheesh, there were a lot of measures that weren’t supposed to be empty

No I think maybe a different version. This how I remembered playing in it in HS. 🙂

I’m trying to play ( going into ninth when school starts) and I’m also second cornet ;-; I can’t even begin to learn on my own.

@@daisysharps8589 As 1st French Horn it is a little challenging, especially since I don't know how to double tounge and I have to deal with some abrupt jumps with notes. For example, at 0:35, you can hear the horns play 3 triplets (all played in a G [concert C]) and then jump up to an Eb (concert Ab) at 0:37. That, along with the tempo makes that quick jump difficult

Is it just me or is the C section really weird for some reason? It's only two bars, it's a key change, and it's literally just a trombone ostinato and tuba pedal between the root and fifth. Just weird for some reason. And not hard, just sound-wise, is weird.
