The equipment used here is impressive. Definitely the best way to get rid of stubborn stumps.

It may not do well on tree roots but it was awesome at removing the top layer. If you are putting in a septic system or laying a underground pipe that's the tool. You could almost roll that top soil back.

Nice attachment. But might I suggest putting a solid bar about a third way up from the tips. Will reduce the flex on the tunes. I build these types of attachments in New Zealand. When Hardox flexes to many times it becomes real brittle. And it will break at the heat affected area by the weld. Can sound like a rifle going off when it does. Check out Doherty Couplers and attachment NZ.

I wonder if the tines had a beveled or had a knife-like longitudinal edge, would have the excavator expend less energy ripping through the earth. And you would have less collateral soil being dug and more raking being accomplished, bringing up more roots and rocks and less soil.

A bit surprised you didn’t specify a “stump jump” function, hinging the tines on a spring, so if it becomes jammed it “springs” rather than jams or bends or stalls.

I’m pretty much sold in getting this implement for my 35 G just wondering if your machine has the extra counterweights like my machine has it might help when stretching the boom out. I also have a ripper tooth I plan on using first to break the roots first then clean up with the fang.
@idigit49674 жыл бұрын
Mine had one counterweight, but I saw a G-model recently that had a long arm with an additional counterweight attached so if you've got that you should be good to go! Have fun!

I might have missed it in introduction. Whats the overall width of the fang? Also how long are the teeth? Its very deceiving in videos. I'm guessing about 28" wide and 30" long. To the guys that say its a waste of time, I don't think they realize how big it is. They're not going to do what you did by hand. Keep up the good work.
@idigit49673 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I should have put that in there, honestly this thing is custom made and they will make it as wide and with as many prongs as you like I'm sure. I had to send them some specs on my machine and the thumb width and whatnot so they could make it. This thing is not a waste of time, it is a beast!

Good review of that nasty looking rake. Only compliant I have is the video was a bit long in the tooth. Maybe have spent less time raking the ground for roots and spent more on getting that PITA stump out. Keep up the good work.

Ahhhhhhhh, I assume that you are just practicing with the rook rake to see how well it works in removing roots. I say this inasmuch, as after digging up a stump, the normal procedure is to only remove to surface roots that come out with the stump. The subsurface roots are supposed to be left in the ground to hold the ground together. The way you dug up all the roots will make the ground in that area soft and will create a sunken depression because of the roots that you removed. Further, it will cause the ground in that area to become really muddy after a rain drenching, not a good idea at all. The idea of digging up a stump is to disturb as little of the ground as possible in as small of an area as possible.
@idigit49675 жыл бұрын
No I was not practicing. The stumps and roots and root mat all had to come out so we could so backfill and do compaction later. The area there wont get soft or muddy as everything there is sand as deep as you can dig so mud isn't a factor. I did this project months ago and there are no sinkholes or soft areas and we've had plenty of rain. This may be the case where you are but not where I am.
