A lot of drivers could have been a champion with the RB19. A handful of drivers could’ve won the championship in dominant fashion. Very few (if any) in the history of the sport could’ve emulated winning 19/22 GPs, or better it. I honestly can’t remember witnessing this level of consistency ever, since starting viewing F1 in the late ‘80s.

Who you're competing against makes a lot of difference as well. Verstappen was not racing against Schumacher, Senna, Prost and Mansell etc. That's why he was able to achieve such a level of consistency.

@@Fireglo No, he was “only” competing against Alonso, Hamilton, Leclerc, etc. The field changes, as do the cars, but it still takes excellence to be be excellent on a consistent basis.

If the current drivers were put in those 50s / 60s cars with todays attitude toward any risk or danger . THEY WOULD ALL BE SOON DEAD . Fangio is the best ever . Survived to tell it all , with 5 championships and a 50% win ratio .

They asked him about Michael Shumi and Fangio. He said Shumi was the greatest he ever saw. In Sir Jackie's opinion, the competition level, car reliability, refueling era, and worth 1 second per lap made Shumi seem more legitimate. He is 86 and saw all the drivers compete live, and he knows his stuff.

Jackie did not race against Fangio. Fangio drove 1950-1958. Jackie drove 1965-1973. @@Aaron-ej6wj

Fangio also was a lucky boy, Jackie. He also needed a great car that was reliable enough and quick enough to be able to achieve what he did. To always downplay succes by means of it is just the car isn't right. Everyone needs quality tools to work with. That also goes for all the other drivers on the current grid, but also every racing driver in whatever class in racing history. You can go all the way to the races in the hippodromes of the Rome of old to verify this fact.
