I watched this with my Mum in 1975. It was repeated every year for a few years. Then of course it stopped. As a child it meant Christmas was just round the corner. I loved it and it still brings back good memories. Legend has it she was a total B! well, she could run a palace and you would know everything would be 'just right'. No messing.

@@benpynemusic it's often also known as "sweet mince". It's a mixture of dried fruit, spices and spirits. In centuries past it did actually contain meat. Some old recipes contain beef suet, but these days it's pretty much 100% vegetarian.

the Icing sugar - vile. Too much Mincemeat. The nails. I saw a documentary on Fanny and her friend said she found a Ham in her fridge with Maggots in it and fanny told her "nothing wrong with Maggots" ... "boil it up and we will eat". And she did. The doco is called "The Real Fanny Craddock", it was made by Cannel 4 (UK) and has interviews with her son, guests, friends and so on. She is more of a performer than an actual cook.

You’ve never heard of mincemeat? It’s often eaten at Christmas in pies/tarts. You can make it or buy in a jar. It has fruit, dry fruit, spices, a fat - suet,shortening or butter and often a liquor like brandy. Long ago it also had meat in it, hence the name. My mom loved it, she would buy tarts when they were available.
