​@@fishingmaster69the anime style is a little more subtle in Zelda, and Splatoon, but yeah if you dig into every Nintendo series even Mario, DK, and stuff have slight animesque expressions, and visual gags. (Like the snot bubble when sleeping.) The only Nintendo series that look fully western are F-Zero, and StarFox, because the art director Takaya Imamura was inspired by American and British comics for F-Zero. While StarFox was influenced by old puppet action dramas like Thunderbirds.

I respect the obscurity appeal for this game. A revival from an existing old IP. But to anyone who was none familiar with this including myself, the teaser made it seem like it would be something super unusually different from Nintendo. A massive new horror IP extravaganza. Lol And because it wasn’t those expectations whatsoever, it felt ultra disappointing for most people. You go from realistic looking from the teaser, to suddenly full blown anime aesthetics with a genre that isn’t for everyone that throws people off.

Sadly its just how video game fanbases be. Its not just Nintendo, you'll see under like Sega's posts for example trying to shoutout different series and ppl will just proudly and unprovoked say "I only know Sonic, i only care about sonic" like its something to be proud of lol. Heres what ppl do MISS in games like this. Visual novels, depending on developer(s), can be entertaining and can hide much horror. For example, remember Spirit Hunter: NG and the sequel, literally is drawn as anime visual novels but has visual and horror interactive and RPG elements emplememetal in it. Especially the monsters in NG and bad endings being gorey and twist glitch and messy ending in like Doki Doki literatural club. Be patient and stop thinking visual novels are all anime mowey cuteness and wait for more detail and gameplay of it.

It’s very interesting for Nintendo fans. These people will be the same people who want Nintendo to revive some of their old games. And then when they get it of want they wanted, they then complain and then some will probably not buy or play it. Why because it’s not kid ikarcus, f zero, Star fox, punch out, and for those few fans that want a new ice climbers game for some reason. This is what you people wanted to have Nintendo revive some of their old ip with new games. This ip hasn’t had a new game in what 35 years I think it was. I might not like visual novels, but I’ll probably try the game out since I didn’t know about the famicom detective club series until 2021 or 2022. That’s one thing about the switch that I can say is without it, I would have never played franchises like fire emblem, Kirby, animal crossing, some of Zelda, Luigi’s mansion, famicom detective club when it comes out this year, and other franchises that I’ve never played before the switch. There’s many things I can say about the switch but that was just one of those things about the console. Even when Mario and Luigi brothership comes out, I as well will pick up and play the game which will be my first Mario and Luigi game.

It is an Adventure game nor a visual novel. Also the mistake was that the teaser had a different art style than the game. But anyway, the old games were so old that a lot of restrictions might not be there anymore. It could be an epic horror game, because the strongest horror comes when you don't have a gun. Imagine searching around for the evidence while being in danger.

The issue is how they over sold the idea, it felt like possibly a new IP and Nintendo has been talking with investors about exactly that, new franchises. It seemed to hint at so much more and called up to the many people who didn't know they wanted a first party horror game by Nintendo. Now by no means I'm going to insult the game, it's just not for me and fans of the franchise are more than allowed to enjoy it, but it feels like we got a hint of something much bigger than the actual thing. I had no idiotic ideas about what the game would be like BTW, just thought Nintendo was experimenting with new ideas, if anyone thought Nintendo was going to go full on Resident Evil, that's not Nintendo's fault, at most I was expecting something like fatal frame.

I was actually opening my switch to continue playing Mario Odyssey and then I see a new sort of news with Nintendo games on it, and there was Emio the Smiling Man included with the other Nintendo Direct Nintendo games such as Brothership and Echoes of Wisdom. I didn't really expect anything from Emio besides believing that there is gore, but then I watched the trailer attentively and because it's a sort of murder mystery game, it actually looks interesting to be honest.

When I first saw the teaser, I was expecting a first person horror game where you have to run away from the paper bag man while you are uncovering the past of a family or something. But I did not expect this to be a Famicom Detective Club game. And after learning about this, I now want to play the entire series on my Nintendo Switch. I never played the series before, I have never played a visual novel before, but this series may be my gateway into that genre. Now I’m interested. I’m not going to be getting the games right now because there are other games I want to buy, but you know what, at least I was surprised, and that’s all it takes to get me intrigued.

Visual Novels can be scary in setting and story too! One of the scariest visual novels that I played were The Silver Case and the Death Mark series and both used their settings to enhance the horror. While I don't know how scary Emio will be I am glad that Nintendo is bringing back an older series it shows hope that they might bring other games back too like Eternal Darkness or Viewtiful Joe. Tbh im actually infinitely more interested in it now. Another Code and Apollo Justice trilogy (though that ones not Nintendo) got me back into an adventure game mood this year full swing, and Famicom Detective Club remakes were on my radar recently. Now i got more reason to get em and look forward to this. When the only impression was that maybe Nintendo was making a horror game i cba lol

Honestly though, I am really not big on horror games, but I personally never heard of Famicom Detective Club, let alone play it which I never have. Yes, I agree here that every one of us can have their own opinions about this game, but I am sitting this game out, because I have no (ZERO) interest in it whatsoever.
