Great report! This is not the first time a major race has run over a body of water. I raced in the Columbus Grand Prix in Ohio in the 80s that went over two bridges. It is the first time Indycars have done it, possibly.

They aren't the first race cars to cross a body of water. The street circuit in Valencia, Spain which was used by F1 had a bridge crossing the water and the current street circuit in Singapore, also used by F1, has two bridge crossings over water.

Nashville is not the first street course in the world or this country to use a bridge. Spokane, Washington, for a number of years held an annual NASCAR Winston West street race that crossed bridges in three different places each lap. They also went thru a tunnel. At the time Winston West ran the same rules package as Winston Cup including full-sized cars powered by big block engines so it was racing to the max. Supporting races many years included open-wheel Formula Atlantic cars which produced a number of top Indy drivers, including Danica Patrick. Also, in the very first-ever St Petersburg race the street course went out a pier over the ocean, where drivers were required to do a hairpin turn, and return to land.

@@jessaphillips2846 They are not saying that. All of the promotion, including local TV coverage, are saying this is the first time ever, any where in the world, that any kind of racing has done this. That is not even close to true. There's a comment on one of the videos from a gentleman who twice raced the Columbus, Ohio, IMSA races in the late '80s which crossed two separate bridges each lap. Though not involving bridges, several times in the 1950s Formula One cars went into the harbour at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix. In the early 1950s one of the very first sports car racing courses in the U.S. each lap single file crossed a wooden plank bridge with no guard rails of any kind.

My wife went there a few years ago and told me she had a good time there, but proceeded to tell me negative story after negative story about the incompleteness of basically every employee she met. From gas stations to hotels and car rentals. One big clusterfork is what it sounded like to me. Other research tell me that Nashville is real poophole.
