Within about 5 laps some of us were banging out laps within a second or better of the regular 20yo guys who turned up in their own suits and helmets because they raced competitively... 1 second or less on a 55 second lap in pretty quick carts isn't bad in my mind and I wouldn't doubt that other old gits with other experiences of driving fast and safely could do it...

@@alisioardiona727 That explains why he got up to speed so quick then, but still, Porches are different beasts, to carry speed in modern f1 cars like the pros do, it will take years, not impossible, but. Quite unlikely I'd say. I'd even go as far as to say he would make Latifi look fast, that's how behind he will be. These f1 kids work their entire lives to get to the levels they get to, so he'd have to work every waking hour for two years just to get to get as good as Latifi lol. The only way it's possible is if he got sponsorship from an F1 team and he dedicated the next 2 years at least to training, testing, sim work, etc, and then learning all the knowledge of how to work with F1 engineers, how the cars work, etc etc, and then competed in a single seater championship like F2 perhaps. Without that he's got no chance honestly.

The steering wheel shot at 5:48 is really interesting compared to photos of the RB8 wheel when it was racing, especially now that there is a TCS dial and no KERS, with the KERS dial now labelled FANS - presumably as part of the show car fleet the car's been modified to cope with all of the crazy stunts that Red Bull use them for, hence traction control for when the car is being driven by non-F1 drivers, plus extra cooling for all the low-speed, high-rev wheel-spinny show car runs in city centres etc. Probably in the minority here but as a geek I'd love to know more about the post-F1 lives that these cars live.
@VollstandigErleuchtung25 күн бұрын
That actually might impact the performance of the car on track, unless they change everything up for events like these so it's suited for hotlaps.
@halycon40425 күн бұрын
The cars don't really have post-F1 lives. The life of cars after F1 is weird. If they win they end up in the manufacture's museums as show pieces. Ferrari in particular has spent way too much money on their museum. Some manufacture's just stick their winners in a garage near their test track and bring them out for press events. If they lose a lot of them will end up sold or donated to museums. If you do some research you can find a lot of F1 cars in public museums and national museums. A losing car that actually raced can have a lot of value after the season as a tax write off donation. Depending they can end up in engineering museums or art museums as some countries consider them moving functional art. The show cars are their own thing from start to finish. They start as a base chassis but a lot of the more expensive bits are removed and other bits are added on to increase longevity.

Rally drivers make great F1 drivers ...Kimi Räikkönen started out in Finnish rally. Those guys are amazing, controlling those rocket powered rally cars in the snow is a challenge in it self , never mind at the speeds that those guys do it at 👌🏻

An older car not tuned to run on the edge, yet Kalle's skills are transferable and he can do really, really well. I feel WRC is much more demanding than F1, although each class has it's own demands. It must take a lot of driving/race time in a car that's set up to race to get down to the split, split seconds needed to beat the rest in F1. This was a great watch!

Now put a reserve F1 Driver or Yuki, Max, Checo, or Liam in a Rally car! Would love to see it. Great video😎
@DonJake100023 күн бұрын
That would be nice to see. But I'm sure that it's much more difficult for a skilled driver to learn how to find grip on a loose gravel, slide into a corner high speed confidently or how to position you'r car before a 20 m jump to have perfect line to next corner than it is to learn to drive ok laps with an F1. You also need to learn to listen notes of you'r co-driver an how to change flat tire on you'r own. Driving skills is just a part of being good in rallying. Kalle's video "Drive like you stole it" explains my point.

Great driving. To put that lap time in perspective, it's already faster than the official lap record in F2 car and much faster than the official lap record for Formula Renault 3.5! The real F1 car is obviously much faster still but this wasn't true race spec car so that was a great lap time.

Other than the fact that its the 2012 car, this years pole was 1:04 and the track record in 2020 was 1:03 so no in modern F1 cars its not 1:09 when were talking one lap pace. Amazingly impressive nontheless, wish they raced around there in 2012 so we could see a better comparison, after 2017 f1 cars became too quick to compare.

That Kalle dude is quite possibly the best driver in thr world. Before anyone starts talking about differences in Rally1 and F1, im gonna say I know that.. Even Michael Schumacher said Rally1 drivers are the best drivers in the world. And Kalle being the youngest Rally1 champion ever, he wins his second Rally1 tittle next year and decides to take a sabbtical and then spends his time kicking butt in drifting and Porsche-series. Now he is testing F1 and being instantly quick. Think about that.

Enjoyed this, my only gripe is the footage doesn’t fit in with what we are told, part of the video claims laps carried out in the Formula Renault, but the sound and onboards/inboards are definitely the F4 car 😢 But he deserves a drive or at least the young driver test at the end of the season. This reminds me of how Sebastien Loeb came VERY close to bagging an F1 drive (with Toro Rosso, IIRC). If only the damn superlicence requirement didn't exist...
@kantina4765Ай бұрын
The super licence makes sense in theory, the logic of keeping idiots out of very dangerous cars is sound. In practise it’s just a way to funnel money into the pockets of certain people by forcing young drivers to go through f3 f2 etc. The idea that indycar is somehow worth LESS than f2 is insane to say the least.
@anonymouswhite35228 күн бұрын
Considering around a circuit indy is faster than f2 it's ridiculous

For a time of around 1.15, if Kalle had been racing against other cars from the Austrian GP of the 2014 era, he would be roughly 2 off pole and in the middle field. With rules stopping teams from using the most up to date cars for promo purposes with non F1 drivers I guess we'll never know Kalle could scare a few of the F1 drivers on the grid right now. But it does show that he can drive and that Finland truly is the best nation in teaching people how to drive. Kalle certainly has Sisu.
