And the best lap in F1 car was already faster than the lap record for F2 and F3.5 race cars! And it was obvious that this wasn't modern full spec F1 car so nobody should expect track record laps with this car. It would have been interesting to have info what kind of lap time the teacher could have posted with the same car.

I guess it's because F1 is marginal sport and they have to juice it up a bit to avoid being a complete sedative to the casual viewer. It's all about clicks baby. How about his ..I'm watching a Metalica video (just to name anyone) and the video editor puts a F1 car sound throughout the entire song yeah that'll work.

It seems like if you’re a good rally driver then you can drive literally any kind of race car well. Been watching him easily win drift events and fight for podiums in Porsche Cup races this past season and I can’t get over how well he’s able to adapt and learn the car control. I was wondering if there’d be a time he’d get behind an open wheel of some sort so I almost wasn’t surprised to see this one. He’s an incredible driver!

It's not unusual. As a police trained driver, an instructor and licensed for every vehicle and a few seasons of local Motocross about 45 years ago... We rocked up for my 60th at an untried indoor track with a leaky roof... A very wet section... Within about 5 laps some of us were banging out laps within a second or better of the regular 20yo guys who turned up in their own suits and helmets because they raced competitively... 1 second or less on a 55 second lap in pretty quick carts isn't bad in my mind and I wouldn't doubt that other old gits with other experiences of driving fast and safely could do it...

@@neddyseagoon9601 I wonder what country you are a trained police driver in? Because I watch police pursuit footage every now and then, it is all US because it is legally mandated there that they keep dashcams and bodycams recording all time. I've seen several pursuits where they could have interdicted the guy if they were just ready to hit the curb as hard as the perp, no canine in the trunk, patrol vehicle is a big american SUV that should eat curbs for breakfast without dying, etc. and I am like "why are you being so conservative with your vehicle, the lot is vacant, you arent running a trabant or your grandma's honda civic" and then they just let the guy blast into oncoming traffic at 2x speed limit in some juiced up V8 pickup, running over several of those funny teeth things without popping more than a single sitre a situation that could have been averted with a little rally sass. As for Rally? Rally was and always will be the ultimate motorsport, its not about driving fast or in circles, it is about navigating complex and dynamic terrain, listening, communicating, you gotta operate the vehicle rightly. I will always have endless respect for rally drivers.

The car is the RB8, from 2012. The RBR didn't get f1 until 2014, so direct comparisons are difficult, but in 2015 (ignoring 2014 due to regulation changes) the fastest by the RB11 was, iirc, in the mid 1.11s by Ricciardo. a 1.15 is quite impressive for a first timer, in a car that's about as fast!

The requirements of the two sports are different that is why neither type of driver transposes successfully into the other sport. The drivers have become so specialised that they can;t transpose their skills and be successful. Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kibica were not successful at WRC and Seb Loeb didn't make it to the top of GT racing despite obviously being accomplished, Long gone are the days of Fangio, Moss and Clark, who's skill translated across all disciplines.

These f1 kids work their entire lives to get to the levels they get to, so he'd have to work every waking hour for two years just to get to get as good as Latifi lol. The only way it's possible is if he got sponsorship from an F1 team and he dedicated the next 2 years at least to training, testing, sim work, etc, and then learning all the knowledge of how to work with F1 engineers, how the cars work, etc etc, and then competed in a single seater championship like F2 perhaps. The steering wheel shot at 5:48 is really interesting compared to photos of the RB8 wheel when it was racing, especially now that there is a TCS dial and no KERS, with the KERS dial now labelled FANS - presumably as part of the show car fleet the car's been modified to cope with all of the crazy stunts that Red Bull use them for, hence traction control for when the car is being driven by non-F1 drivers, plus extra cooling for all the low-speed, high-rev wheel-spinny show car runs in city centres etc. Probably in the minority here but as a geek I'd love to know more about the post-F1 lives that these cars live.

The cars don't really have post-F1 lives. The life of cars after F1 is weird. If they win they end up in the manufacture's museums as show pieces. Ferrari in particular has spent way too much money on their museum. Some manufacture's just stick their winners in a garage near their test track and bring them out for press events. If they lose a lot of them will end up sold or donated to museums. If you do some research you can find a lot of F1 cars in public museums and national museums. A losing car that actually raced can have a lot of value after the season as a tax write off donation. Depending they can end up in engineering museums or art museums as some countries consider them moving functional art. The show cars are their own thing from start to finish. They start as a base chassis but a lot of the more expensive bits are removed and other bits are added on to increase longevity.

That would be nice to see. But I'm sure that it's much more difficult for a skilled driver to learn how to find grip on a loose gravel, slide into a corner high speed confidently or how to position you'r car before a 20 m jump to have perfect line to next corner than it is to learn to drive ok laps with an F1. You also need to learn to listen notes of you'r co-driver an how to change flat tire on you'r own. Driving skills is just a part of being good in rallying. Kalle's video "Drive like you stole it" explains my point.
