Why not Oakland? Lee never lived in San Francisco. He liked Oakland better because he felt the Chinese community in Oakland was more welcoming to younger people like him. Oakland was also home to a large physical culture scene with lots of people into weightlifting, body building and boxing, which were all activities he took part. Lastly, Oakland was where he had his kwoon (gym) where he dueled Wong Jack Man and laid the foundation of his art of Jeet Kune Do.
