I mean there's that, but this episode delves deep into what happens when an oppressive regime is overthrown before the next government has the political capabilities, vision and integrity to take over. (Not implying that the overthrow should wait in any way) For a lot of folk who have a government like that, this is pretty realistic and paints a grim picture about people who genuinely try to do better than the Empire but are bad at it. (Again not saying they're no different and the Empire should have remained in power)

Was a really solid episode, the New Republic trying to be this idyllic peaceful society and everything the Empire wasn't but still ending up doing a lot of things wrong was very interesting. And it's pretty realistic too. Also I seriously had a hard time predicting whether Elia was sus because she's really sus or it's the show misleading us and she does have genuine good intentions that will go horribly wrong. A lot of Andor vibes and its great.

A surprisingly easy-to-miss detail is that the NR was supposedly decommissioning all Empire tech regardless of purpose, but then it turns out they kept an Imperial mental torture tech. Now, they aren't using it for torture and interrogation but for rehabilitation and even personal therapeutics for themselves, so it's not a case of dual standards or secretly evil. More like they're much less sure about what to do and know much less about what they're doing than they believe. Probably some high-ranking people can cook up all sorts of excuses to make exceptions to the no Imperial tech rule. That being said... The fact that the rehab machine retained the dial that can be cranked back up to mindflayer mode paints a very dark picture about some hidden forces exploiting the NR's holes.

I really liked this episode. Shows a lot about what the New Republic is all about, and not all of it is pretty… Besides that, I think it’s good that a show is able to follow the stories of side characters besides the main protagonists (eg. Mando in BoBF).

15:32 The Mandalorian is very well known for it's unpredictable twists in the most predictable of arcs so if she actually set him free which would be unexpected of course, she knows more than anyone that Dr. Pershing's villian arc starts right after he uses her and stabs her in the back when she's obsolete. 😁 I would find it very difficult to hate him if that happened. 1:55-2:04 Din's flight maneuver does look similar to what Michael Keaton's Batman did. This was a very interesting episode. I have a feeling that the TIE Interceptors and TIE Bombers are aligned with Grand Admiral Thrawn, and since Moff Gideon was sent to a New Republic War Tribunal, I think that Elia Kane is secretly aligned with Thrawn too.

It's rumoured Gideon escaped though! But I hope it's Thrawn. Gideon's imprisonment felt like a conclusion to his part in the story, and I fear it would feel weird if he was brought back. While Thrawn was always meant to come back one day.

The reason this episode has the Doctor part is because they canceled the Ranger of the New Republic show. The show would have focused on the politics and espionage of the New Republic and the transition from the Empire, and have hints of how the First Order was able to gain power. It was gonna follow the style of Book of Boba, in that it would focus on its own story, but still tie into the Mando-verse. Now they are bringing some elements that would have been in Rangers into Mando, in order to set up future stories.

The main storyline of this season's episode 3 of The Mandalorian is in the wrong place. The Mandalorian series is telling the story of the Mandalorians through the adventures of Din and Grogu, but episode 3 isn't at all. It feels like episodes 5-6 of The Book of Boba-Fett, after looking at it, wanted to shout "Hey!!! Tell the story of the owner of his story!!!" If the content of this third episode was in an Andor series, no one would mind. On the other hand, The Last of Us episode 3 is also a story about other characters other than the main character. But it's still in the theme of the story that the series is trying to convey and that other characters and the main character have a scene together, having a relationship. It therefore keeps the content of the episode and the main story the same.

It's similar but not the same. This seems to progress a beat for later since din already gained his clan within the first 3 episodes, he still needs to get IG back for something Bo is gonna bring up the mythesaur probably all in one episode then the last part might have something to do with this episode. Lou... It's nice, did we need it... No. It doesn't affect Joel and Ellie's relationship, has nothing to do with fireflies or setting up something later. I could do without episode 3 of Lou but I'd prefer if ep 3 of Mando took less time to set up something and more time on Bo and Mando, maybe. Even something about the dark saber like the fact that she technically beat someone that beat him or just clarified that the encounter wasn't official for the dark saber to belong to her.

Grogu standing over Din at the beginning is literally me waking up to my cat sitting on my nightstand staring at me. I have mixed feelings on this episode. The beginning was one of the best openings to a Mando episode ever and that space battle was top notch. And the end was great too. Back when we didn’t trust Bo. Ep2: is she gonna kill him? Ep8: when are they gonna kiss? Summs up this season in a nutshell. Anyways the middle was a super cool concept. The new republic trying and failing to not be like the empire and how they try to give imperials new purpose. It was also cool to see who’d legitimately turned over a new leaf and who hadn’t. Also I freaked out seeing that opera house at the beginning. The whole plot felt very Andoresque which is fine, if the story had been more condensed. Maybe we could’ve gotten a hologram of Mof Gideon at the end of this or ep5. But as it was it felt super out of place in the context of the rest of the show. Though I feel like it’s gonna have big ramifications later. Despite my complaints, I’m glad we got to see this side of the new republic.

What is most sad about this episode, when they talk about the disposal of the imperial tech, and the reactors mentioning "That's why they got beaten down by the first order so badly" is how true that statement is...And how HARD actual good writers are having to work to fill in how the New Republic crumbled faster than even the Empire did....In Legends, it was so much better, as the New Republic had to fight the Imperial Remnant (which is hinted at throughout Mandalorian) and the various governors and warlords, and started with a smaller system than the Empire due to that. Along with wars with the Hutt Cartels as well. Such better story than "Yeah, they chose to just decommission and destroy any and all Imperial related research and tech, even if it was something that would be useful" (Remember, the Rebel Alliance didn't have a lot of ships. They even had more pilots than ships, in fact....) Which is why their "police" force of X-wing pilots and such were so streched thin, and so many systems and people viewed the New Republic as a joke. This is the result of poor planning on the part of the Sequel Trilogy, without taking into account the history and worldbuilding even just the preceding movies established.
