Honestly, I took Jamie Bell more seriously in Jumper (2008) than in Fant4stic. He at least had more kickass action scenes fighting Anakin Skywalker and Nick Fury in that movie, *and they were on-screen* more than his action scenes as Ben Grimm. I know KZbin Premium tried to continue Jumper with the web series, Impulse, but I'm still waiting to see if we can try again with Jumper in a sequel.

That would require acknowledging its existence and, in essence, make it a part of the Marvel universe. And from what I heard, Marvel despises it so much, they have actually refused to give it a universe designation, meaning it’s not considered canon. And for context, even the unreleased Roger Korman Fantastic 4 and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark have universe numbers.

i have something to say about that: Fant4stic should've just won Worst Picture alone. does 50 Shades of Grey deserve a Worst Picture nomination? yeah. but Fant4stic is way worse than 50 Shades of Grey imho, maybe in one area. at least 50 Shades of Grey pleased its target audience(s): either the valentines day crowd or bdsm crowd or both. 21:55, 31:21, 47:49 Josh Trank did make a good film with 2012's Chronicle, his debut film. but the ppl responsible behind this 2015 disaster is both Trank n Fox. just because Trank put out a twitter post one day before Fant4stic's debut, it doesn't excuse for Trank's behavior on the film's set. Trank became drunk on set, got into a fight with miles teller n verbally abuses kate mara. plus, i'm not sure i wanna see josh trank's actual F4 version, the movie would've been a bloated film, being too expensive to film, building elaborate set pieces & action sequences, and will suffer the same problem as spider-man 3: too many villains, Dr Doom, Galactus and Mole Man. in short, don't defend both Josh Trank & Fox.

The film you mentioned is more the original draft by Jeremy Slater, Josh Trank wanted a serious body horror flick, which seemed to be cut in the editing phase.

Also, Trank was the one who wanted it to be as gritty and dark as possible. Jeremy Slater suggested looking to The Avengers as inspiration and Trank said he "hated every fucking second of it". Josh Trank never understood the source material. It's a shame Fox didn't let Matthew and Simon make the movie like they wanted to instead of tried to cash in on a new name with Josh Trank.

Wired did an interview with an ER doctor whose name is Slaughter. There are real people out there named Doctor Slaughter. Also, Victor Von Doom is from Latveria, a fictional country in southeast Europe. There are many words from other languages that sound like words in other languages, which are sometimes transliterated to the same spelling. There's no reason to assume that "doom" in Latverian means the same thing as it does in English. They could just say that "Doom" means "Lord" in Latverian and that it comes from the Latin word "dominus". It could be the name of the royal family, which once ruled the region before some kind of political upset. They'd barely have to retcon his backstory. Just add a few details. And they already changed it more than just that.

44:29 - 44:44 Almost 10 years after watching Fant4stic, and after watching Fanscription with the decent rewrites of films with Batman and Spider-Man that Doug and his team have done, I've been thinking of a possible rewrite to fix this incarnation of Fantastic Four. The stuff that Josh Trank had in mind was fine, with the alternate dimensions and the body horror angle out of David Cronenberg's The Fly/Scanners, but where I would fix would be near when they first traveled to the other dimension. One, include Sue in the group when they decide to go over before the astronauts, 'cuz *she was part of the team who built the damn machine,* and plus, the reason for her getting her powers at the last minute was so stupid. I know Reed and Ben are friends, but Ben should've been written to have some scientific mind or at least engineer skills to qualify going on this trip to the other world. Two, have the new world be The Negative Zone, which would open the door for Annihilus. I know Doom is the OG nemesis of the Fantastic Four, but we're trying to reboot from the last two that failed Dr. Doom twice. One where he kinda stole the spotlight from Galactus; branch out, Fox. The part where they explore and touch the green glowing slime would be where I'd bring in Annihilus and get rid of Kobell's Victor Von Doom; save his Dr. Doom for a cameo near the end as a setup for a sequel. Annihilus uses his Cosmic Control Rod to charge and make the slime react with cosmic energy, supposedly kill Victor, and then he would turn his attention to the remaining four, who would run back to the dimensional gateway that they've set on a time limit. Annihilus would cause the environment to change and attack Reed, Johnny, Sue, and Ben, who get affected by the cosmic energy and the elements in various ways, with rocks, fire, and so forth, and only at the last minute would it be thanks to Dr Storm that they would be brought back at the brink of near death/being changed drastically. Then, the next part I'd fix would be seeing the team train to figure their powers out, except we actually would focus on the Fantastic Four being used as government assets, while trying to mend trusts and connections as friends from the failed expedition. Meanwhile, we would see Annihilus has enhanced his Cosmic Control Rod by using debris from the old machine, to hack the dimensional signal to the new machine built by Tim Blake Nelson's team, and open a gateway for his insect army, the Annihilation Wave, to come through to our world and wipe it out. From there, you can have fun with the Fantastic Four kicking a-s, killing interdimensional bug creatures and destroying the Cosmic Control Rod, either killing Annihilus or banishing him. There! I fixed the movie!

I'm fully convinced that even if Josh Trank had his way, it still wouldn't have been a good movie. Bottom line, this is not what the Fantastic Four is about. They were seen as realistic in the comics because they talked like REAL people instead of the overly-patriotic characters from Marvel's past like Captain America before he got reinvented. Not because they brooded in dark rooms. Also, Trank claimed he was a big fan of the team, but only ever watched the 90's animated series, which is a fine show, but not completely representative of the FF. It's says a lot that the best film is the low-budget Roger Corman one because the people behind it were actually passionate about it. The documentary about it is a fascinating watch and I highly recommend it. I will say I am hopeful for the MCU reboot as that film has them going back to their comic roots. Time will tell, I guess.

Honestly, this film was fucked the moment Trank decided Ultimate Fantastic Four was a good basis. That edgelord shit. It's like the DCEU thinking the New 52 was a good foundation. Also Trank has gone on to say his cut doesn't exist. You can stop asking for it, he notes he never finished filming his version at all. It's not a Snyder Cut or even David Ayer cut situation.

Now hold on, some elements of the Ultimate universe were good: Spiderman (had a great run with Peter Parker and introduced Miles Morales), Nick Fury based on Sam Jackson (used in the MCU), cool character designs for the Avengers/Ultimates (used in the MCU), a good early run for the Xmen... look I'm not saying it was perfect (by the end it was a complete mess), but saying that ALL of the Ultimate universe sucks is just plain dishonest and unfair. Although, I did not read Ultimate Fantastic Four, was it that bad?

I think Fant4stic is more of a tragic bad (in terms of production) because unlike was the case with Zack Snyder's Justice League, we may never see the Trank Cut/the true version of this film. The original version sounds more interesting (if done right) then the mess that we ended up having! I don't think Trank's version would've worked anyway. The Fantastic Four isn't exactly dark or gritty, they don't have a Batman on their team. A directors cut would be interesting, but probably not much better.

I cannot put into words how much I hate this movie For all the problems the venom movies have at least they have action scenes and it’s funny at times hell Batman and Robin looks like the dark knight compared to this piece of Sh🤬t And I know the mcu hasn’t been doing well as of late but they have to make the fantastic 4 great again even if a variant of reed Richard’s was killed off in Doctor strange and the multiverse of madness that variant felt more like reed Richard’s than whatever the hell this movies version was And don’t get me started on that F graded art class project that the movie dares to call doctor doom I don’t care if RDJ’s take on the character is just evil tony stark I’ll take it over this empty husk of a character And it’s not just fox to blame because josh trank was a bit of an ass on set and didn’t adapt from the source material

They should just hire someone who ACTUALLY read the F4 comics and understand the original source material. Because the Fantastic Four (as well as other Marvel characters) deserve some love and respect. As well as being treated better and adapted right. I mean, just look at how Sony and Zed Wells badly treated my poor man Spidey. And Spidey didn't deserve that.

It literally urks me every time that Dr. Doom...one of Comic's GREATEST Villains, one of the inspirations for Darth Vader and the Shredder, is NEVER done right in any live action adaptation. Dr. Doom is a mastermind, a schemer, arrogant but can more than back it up. .He's an absolute monster, with a huge grudge against Reed Richards, and the world. Man conquered the world twice! And one time he just gave it up because he got bored! I know his name is silly, but comic books are silly! You have a man who once had the powers a god and gave them up because he felt they were beneath him. I'm just saying...a PROPER live action Doom could be phenominal

I can't remember what movie it was I was going to go see at the theater at the time, but when I was waiting for the janitorial team to finish cleaning the auditorium, I saw one of my friends come out of Fan4stic. I caught him off guard when I asked him "Bad movie?", he replied "That movie is so bad, it makes Ninja Turtles 3 look like the f**k'n Godfather part 2!" Lol (he ended up watching the movie I went to see instead).

They're not going to change Doom's name, Doug! Nor should they. They could make it so he gave it to himself as a kid when he was orphaned or its an Ellis Island thing where someone gave him a name that's easy to spell. Or maybe it's a translation of his name in latverian. But they're not going to change an old characters name just because you find it silly.

Say what you want about about the the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies but one of the very few redeeming qualities of those movies is the Michael Chiklis portrayal of The Thing as a practical effect. Reminds me of Ron Perlman's Hellboy. CGI is everywhere at the moment and I miss practical effects.

actually, dude, much as i hate Fant4stic, i'll give a little credit to the vfx artists on the Thing. blame the director, writers and studio on this disaster, not the vfx artists. Otoy, the vfx company, did the best they could. i like the rock texture on him and the character's height is comic accurate (ben grimm's Thing form is a bit more taller than his friends in the comics). my only problems are that his color is muted orange (as in bright color sucked out) and his facial expressions are moody and dull. i like michael chiklis as ben grimm and i do appreciate the practical suit method, but practical suits are hot to the actors inside 'em (just like jim carrey in the grinch) and michael chiklis' version's height isn't comic accurate. new ben grimm actor ebon moss-bachrach is gonna do the cgi mocap method and discusses this method process with mark ruffalo. director matt shakman consulted scientists and studied desert rocks to find the best reference for the Thing's appearance. i hope ben grimm looks like the one in the cast announcement poster art image back in february '24.

@@axelnilsson5124 not according to reports on snipes' behavior on set. i mean david s. goyer as director for trinity not a good choice, but the script that goyer wrote on for the final product? didn't help goyer's case either. plus, snipes has fits at reynolds (calling him a cracker), locked himself in his trailer, smoking weed, uses assistants to communicate or hand out notes with other actors, and in the final scenes of the film, on a medical table, Blade uses cgi eyes to open 'cause snipes refused to open his actual eyes.

That's where the discussion should be held. Now you can argue, that they might forget 1 or 2 things by the time get to the end of the video-material. But on the other hand: if they constantly pause it, that takes away from the flow of their reaction, and honestly it distracts them from what they are actually watching. 1 or 2 sentence is allright, but if they talk more during the reaction-part, or worse: keep pausing it, that takes away from the entertainment value of their reaction.
