Thatʻs a great point about the Thing and the FF. Heʻs easily my favorite member of the team. The book is 80% less interesting every time he leaves

The problem is that they have so resoundingly focused on Thing that readers do think this. When you take away the character that the book always default to focusing on, what are you left with? The characters that they've avoided writing anywhere near a quarter of the amount that they've written about Thing. Why would you like Mr. Fantastic when the book is repeatedly only telling you that Thing is the main one.

Maybe if this had ended with Thing giving him a Fruit Pie it would have been better.

Oh, Jesus, this is bad. Is it meant to be facetious? A dig at the Silver Surfer? The Surfer works because the concept, while absurdly poetic (surfing through space), is kept streamlined in it's visuals. But then his creator went back to the well and brought forth the Black Racer, in New Gods, and it was terrible. The absurdly poetic became flat out ridiculous. A sleek figure striking fluid poses... on a surf board in space... is still a good image. A guy in a clunky armor, grasping ski poles in his fists and wearing the damn skis on his feet to squat through the airless void is just a bad idea. This Gaard mockery, in knee pads and skates and a goalie mask, is cynical parody. Joyless, artless, and ultimately purposeless because why? Just, why?
