Fantastic Grasstrack 1000cc Sidecar Race

This has got to be in the top 3 races i have ever filmed since i started filming over 30 years ago. 4 1000cc Right Hand Sidecars going at it 100%, all looking for the win, and never settling for second. Paul Whitelam, Rob Wilson, Gareth Winterburn, and Rob Bradley. 4 of the top crews in the UK all flat out at the 2012 British Masters. When i think, these guys do this just for fun, certainly not the money. You would think they were racing for £50,000.

Way way way more fun to watch than F1. I’m a motorcyclist, but the agility of the passengers had me grinning. Great stuff. A few minutes of this beats an hour of follow the leader F1.

In the mid 1970s, I went to Moto cross races in Augsburg Germany. One of the events was a side car race. This was on a Moto Cross Track, not a grass oval.

I have a restored Dirt Squirt! My cousin had a Super Rat set up for short track (no brakes), he had another 12 year old on the back when they out ran the cops. They ducked into the garage wide open, forgetting they had no brakes and plowed into dad’s beer fridge. It had two helmet dents in the door for years!
