Ran my first marathon sat. 6 hours, 40 min. I was best friends with the sag wagon. Lol. But I denied help and I did it! Very happy. It was hard mentally because water stations were packing up and people long gone. I felt like they gave up on me. But I couldn't give up on myself.

I came across this video right after I ran my first 10k. I was awe-struck by the runners who had completed 26.2 miles, a distance I could not fathom running. But it planted a seed deep in my heart which came into bloom a few years later. Running Boston was absolutely the best experience ever!

I made it in this video. Great to see it again. Ran my PR that still stands today. What an awesome day that was and I can't wait to run Boston again.

It is not finish line or even the race itself, it's all you put prior to the event that drives 99% poeple away from doing it.

I think there are a lot of people that watch this and just don't understand running.Understand one thing about a Marathon. It's all in the training, in the mindset, and the Wall. Every marathon run is different for everyone, just like every run we take is a little different. There are bad days, awesome days, and so-so days. The Wall presents something else entirely, sometimes it's just a passing nudge, other times its an all-out war that some people don't recover from.

This was footage from the 2011 marathon. Boston is a tough course on the body because of the location of the hills along it. The runners are collapsing because they are spent from the effort to run it.

@blackemostar8512 жыл бұрын
@tripleMmagic You have to run a qualifying marathon in a certain time limit for your age and gender. One of the challenges that Boston presents is that you train your butt off to meet a time limit... and then you have to continue to train for Boston, which is one of the more difficult marathons in the US.

well wish me luck, im running a half marathon and another 5k race on top of that in the same day! half starts at 7 am, 5k starts at noon, btw im a long distance runner, my PB for a 10km race (ive never ran a half before but ive ran 10km races) 29:44, so even if i take 4 hours to finish 21.1 km, ill still have time to make it to the start line of the 5k, but it def wont take me 4 hours, im giving myself 2 hours just to be safe, but if i can run 29:44 10km race, i think i could be done 1 hour 30 maybe earliar, i have been training, and in 2 weeks will be my first half marathon race, in 3 years ive ran a total of 53 races all of them were 10km's except for 1 5k race i did for fun

This was kind of like our xc race.. yeah it's like 23 miles shorter.. but man we go hard! plus i ran with a torn hip, so i had people at the finish waiting to catch me.
@muham811 жыл бұрын
I might suggest that you skip half marathons and do a marathon first. I know the idea sounds crazy. But, if you're to do a half marathon, and not personally enjoy it, you'll question whether you want to times that distance by 2, but if you do a marathon of that bat, you won't question it, at least not till you're already in the race :-) (My first race ever was a marathon in May 2011. I've done 8 more since) Best of luck!
@pedrozatravel11 жыл бұрын
LOL, are you a runner (I am kind of thinking you are not)? Have you ever done a race? If not I suggest you try it. I started doing 5ks then I built myself up to 10ks ( that is 6. 2 miles) and half marathons (13.1 miles, which by the way are rough). I stuck though with it though and just finished my first marathon (26.2 miles,Santa Barbara) last month. Anyhow, good luck just keep trying and you will get there one day.

Just finished my first marathon the other day, u guys may have heard of it. It's the run with Donna marathon for breast cancer. Ime 17 and I did o.k 3:28. But I have to tell you, out of all of the races I have done, xc, Ragnar relays from Miami to key west, half marathons, 10ks . That was perhaps the most memorable run I have ever done. Teared us at the finish line lol
@owleyes7112 жыл бұрын

Yea I was saying that for the kg guy. Don't worry it gets to me too. Sadly the best thing to do is either don't read the comments all that much or go to a different video website that is like youtube because if you stay around all this negative shit it can get to you and effect you. Remember the old hanging around the bad crowd thing when your little. Thats what I least notice happen to be without even wanting it too. You might be different though :). On the side note any races planned bro?

Anyone can do 20K? Are you kidding me? I'd be lucky to meet one in five people that can do more than 3 miles. And in Cross Country that's a short easy workout or a race distance. And many people can do any distance. Many people can walk hundreds of miles. The speed at which you move is a huge factor. Just because Elderp actually pushed himself and you're a lazy kid doesn't mean the half marathon is gay.

Seems some are actually not having legproblems but nearly passing out or just collapsing. I have this happening at times during much shorter runs (or at least feeling this will happen if I push on so I quit instead of continuing ) and I don't find it something to applaud about. Yes willpower is great but if you go this far where you nearly pass out I'd say you should maybe have a bit more respect for your body and not place what you want in your head first. You can always try again next year. Sucks ofcourse, I understand that but the strength you put on your heart is enormous.
