Boxing Supraves I’m a distance runner. My 1600m isn’t the best but this is my first year of track. And I did XC in the fall and made varsity getting sub 19 and 18s. And I’m making fast progress towards a sub 5 mile. I think I should be fine

@ShalemAhava

BEM GANG IKR! people tell me all the time that the 800m is just you jogging! And I cannot stress enough how tough of a. Race it truly is! Not only are you carrying the lactic acid from the first lap, but you have to sprint the last 200m! And it hurts so bad! The 800m training is rough too, you basically train for everything! Endurance, speed, mileage, and weight training!
@jenax9751

Rae Marie in high school my PR was 1:56.8 in the 800 & 48.1 in the 400. I can truly say that it was more painful running the 800 over the 400 and that was back in 2006. Like you mention, lactic acid building up and the push at the end that is basically arm strength getting you through the race when your legs feel numb. The 400 is great also but is simple at sprint turn, coast to last 250 then all out. The 800 that’s more thought than that. Still my most favorite race even though it’s not hyped like shorter races. And higher levels make the 800 a full out sprint when sub 1:52 down to 1:40s

That guy who led and went thru the 400 in 51 seconds can probably go faster just by evening up his pace a bit, if he doesn't have traffic around him to worry about. Usually 1 second on the front half is 2 seconds off the back half, so if his splits were 51/57 he could probably go 53/53 and run 1:46. Save it for college.

Running negative splits is his way of running, how do you think the 400m world record was set? The dude sprinted the first 300m then maintained form the last 100m. Same thing for this 800. If the guy tried to have even splits he would have ran much slower.

bombbrain1 at 1:49 when they are running the final stretch the leader takes a quick look behind him and then starts drifting to his right out of lane 1 and blocks the runner/s from passing in lane 2. One of the runners uses this as an opportunity to try to pass on the inside and the other runner is forced to stray further right to pass.
