The first one was truly special. An entire movie, shot in a single location (if you don't count the small instances of exterior shot) where all the characters did was talk to each other about hypotheticals. It hit all the right emotional and intellectual notes. Everyone contributed something valuable, and of course, the central character, the "immortal" was a truly sympathetic and engaging character. This movie, as a sequel, sadly did not replicate that magic. It wasn't bad. It just didn't feel necessary. And the ending where we started realizing that things have changed for John, actually ruined the very essence of his character.

Aren't there like a gazillion Rambo, Halloween, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, etc. movies? "It was truly a lightning in a bottle film" unfortunately never stopped a studio from pumping out pointless, contrived and (mostly) inferior sequels before. €dit: Just be glad there's only one.

I absolutely love The Man From Earth. The whole movie takes place in a cabin and its just the actors, the script, and the viewers imagination. Just found this sequel recently but they really focused on the "Jesus" thing, the script was weak, and the acting was sub.

Yeah, I loved the first one. The sequel was lacking. I really liked (in the first one) his explanation for why he doesn't remember everything. I man I don't remember everything that happened to me 40 years ago. How can we expect "John" to remember something from 12,000+ years ago.

I completely agree; the impact of the first film was truly remarkable. I vividly recall the initial viewing, and it left me utterly awestruck. Despite the confined setting of the actors in a cabin, the film delivered an extraordinary experience-exceptional dialogue, compelling storytelling, and an overall cinematic masterpiece that easily ranks among my top five films of all time. Having revisited it multiple times over the years, the anticipation for the sequel was naturally high and as soon as I saw the trailer I immediately bought the film three minutes after seeing the trailer, that is how much I loved the first film. However, as you mentioned, the second instalment fell short. The actor's performance lacked the spark we witnessed in the first film, and the script failed to capture the essence that made its predecessor so exceptional. It's disappointing when a sequel doesn't live up to the brilliance of the original, and this experience was no exception
@cainabel2009 Жыл бұрын
Also, after the success of the first film they wanted to make a TV series but couldn't get enough money from the Kickstarter. This meant that sequel came out ten years after the first film. Now the actor who played him was visible older and so they worked that into the script stating that he was losing his immortality because the epoch age was ending and a new one was beginning. It was also implied in the sequel at the end of the movie that they are others like him while John chose to hide another became a serial killer changing his identity after ten years. I guess they left that way just in case to want to do another film.

Also, we know that high school had the jock, going back a long time, but now the jock seems to be replaced with the floozy. Tara seems to be the floozy. It’s always the chicks that aren’t even remotely decent looking that are always trying the hardest! OK it was a film and it was the second one that makes a lot more sense! No offense do young people , do your best to educate yourself throughout your life! Because young people are like seriously not all there I guess they think they can look up everything they need to know on their phone! Allegedly, the majority of kids can barely read at their grade level if they’re able to read at all! Also parents stop giving your babies phones and tablets as a supplemental babysitter!
