Dungeon Crawler Carl is a series I started this year. and I don't think I've ever tore through anything this fast. It is easily one of my favorite series ever now.

I picked up the series in July. I finished the first 5 books in 2 weeks on Audible. I bought books 6 and read it in another week or so. I then restarted and finished the first 5 again by the first week of September so I could listen to the audio version of book 6 when it came out!

Hey, no biggie.. the winner was released 5 years ago. So you're not behind at all. Apparently this isn't best of 2023 just the best Daniel read in 2023. Even though there was a half dozen (or more) fantastic books released in 2023 so long as influencers hear about it this year it becomes a this year book. Pretty sure the winning book came out before this channel even existed.

Okay, as a huge fan of dungeon crawler carl, and who absolutely believes you should read them and looks forward to your thoughts (especially on the most recent, it was a WILD ride), you definitely got vote bombed hard haha. I didn’t vote, but I would have for Dungeon Crawler Carl. Incredible character work, especially with the best portrayal of a sentient cat in fiction, but also with every character you meet. You both get a strong impression of every character the moment you meet them, but each has a depth of untold background that I would read a novel about every single one of them as soon as it was released. I have never laughed so hard, cried so hard, or been so fast at my blitz through a series because it’s just so, so intriguing. The LitRPG genre has no business having a writer this competent.

I could not recommend DCC more. it is so good. I really wish it hid the fact that it is a LitRPG in the marketing, I was hesitant to jump in because of that and I could have missed out of such a great series.

As others have said, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook for Dungeon Crawler Carl. Jeff Hays does an amazing job by himself, and on top of that, you've got Patrick Warburton and Travis Baldree guest starring in Eye of the Bedlam Bride once you get there, who both do a phonomenal job for their characters. Travis's character in Bedlam Bride is probably my favorite performance I've heard from him, and I've listened to plenty of books he's narrated at this point (Cradle series, Beware of Chicken series, Legends & Lattes, Traveler's Gate).

@Daniel Greene - Make sure to check out the audiobook version of DCC. It's easily the best narration out of everything I've listened too. There's a rerelease on Soundbooth Theater where they're doing Book 1 in a Graphic Audio format if you want to start there. I CANNOT WAIT for your reviews of this series.

I came here to say this exact thing. I usually only listen to audiobooks once I’ve read a book before as I get distracted and don’t want my first experience with it to be audio, but with DCC the audiobooks are just amazing. Jeff Hayes does not disappoint and is definitely my favorite narrator!

If you haven't watched Scavengers Reign please do so IMMEDIATELY. It's an animated sci-fi series on Max that came out in October and it is SO. FREAKING. GOOD. The score, the alien world building, the characters - I wanna scream from the rooftops about this show!! It's probably my favorite animated series, maybe ever?

I liked the previous last award (2021 iirc) more. But also hated that it spoiled that violet girl in Arcane as the villain in Best Villain category. I still haven't watched Arcane because of that. But I still loved that awards over this. It felt more varied and chaotic. EDIT : I rewatched the 2021 awards, and i think they r just average.

Your description of DCC was so perfect. You may have only be talking about the cover but once you start reading the series you'll be constantly blasted with the same idea, "it's silly but it's art" one of the best written things to ever come out of the LitRPG genre.

I didn't get a chance to vote but when I saw the category for best Cover Page Art I immediately thought of Eye of the Bedlam Bride because it was just so ludicrous and fun it just had to win. Glad to see DCC getting the top spot! I also just blasted through this series this year and nothing comes close to the amount of fun it provides. Daniel if you read this comment, please please please consume it via the Audiobook because Jeff Hays does an absurdly incredible job in voicing every character that I thought a male and female narrator (ala Michael Kramer and Kate Reading) were doing the book. But no, it's done by just one incredible talented narrator. Pls do yourself a favor and consume the Dungeon Crawler Carl series via audiobook 😁
