I imagine that if something like the bible was presented as a literary work for the first time today, it would evoke similar feelings to a grand fantasy narrative. This is a really interesting video.

I see them as very similar tools used to cope with reality, but through different functions. Fantasy seems to be a way of coping with reality through a mental escape from it. Religion seems to be a way of coping through a structured method of living and thinking within reality. And sometimes the two can be nearly indistinguishable from each other.

Cool video. But on the topic of is the lord of the rings Christian here's what JRR Tolkien had to say "fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision" he was after all a devout Catholic.

Thank you, appreciated! And to continue the discussion: Tolkien wrote it in the letter to a priest (father Robert Murray after he read a part of LotR), so it's not a direct confirmation.
